March 5, 201610 yr Milwaukee(20-12, 10-8 Horizon) danced their way to the easy win over a game Northern Kentucky team(9-21, 5-13 Horizon). This was one of those contest where the winners out played the losing team on every level. For Northern Kentucky, the season was better than many thought and it does look like they can compete in this very under rated conference in time. Matt Tiby(Urbandale, IA) scored 21 points with 11 rebounds and Austin Arians(Stoughton, WI) added 18 points to lead fifth-seeded Milwaukee . Tyler White(Lima, OH) led Northern with 23.
March 6, 201610 yr No more excuses going forward, gotta win. Who is making excuses? They are still several players away from winning consistently in the Horizon. Just a fact.

I think he is referring to the fact that NKU will no longer be on probation and can qualify for the big dance. Many have viewed that as a hindrance that they'll no longer have moving forward.

March 6, 201610 yr Has that been a hindrance in their recruiting up to now? Can't really quantify it, but people always say that not having the potential opportunity to play in the Big Dance is a hindrance to recruiting.
March 6, 201610 yr I think he is referring to the fact that NKU will no longer be on probation and can qualify for the big dance. Many have viewed that as a hindrance that they'll no longer have moving forward. Correct and now they should have recruited all D1 players on the roster at this point. I think they made a mistake in jumping conferences so soon but I get the logistical reasons too.
March 8, 201610 yr No more excuses going forward, gotta win. I watched every game this season, not once did I hear one person making excuses for anything. Coach Brannen stepped into a difficult situation this season. Most of us figured the team would maybe go 5-25 or 6-24 at best. The fact NKU finished with nine wins is remarkable given the circumstances (losing Tayler Persons to a transfer, moving into a much more difficult league, having limited talent on the roster) for Brannen. I give him all the credit in the world for never making an excuse. They worked hard each day, got better as the season progressed and somehow finished with 25% more wins that most of us expected. They will be much better talent-wise next season with three incoming freshmen who will likely start. Coach also has University of Alabama transfer Jeff Garrett, a 6'7" 225-pound forward who was ranked 67th nationally among power forwards and 260th overall by 247Sports coming out of high school in Florida. Garrett will step in and start for NKU. They will be much better next year. Give Brannen a chance and NKU will challenge for a Horizon League championship.
