Speaking of weight...

Featured Replies

I had to do my on line health vitality assessment the other day, required my our health insurance here at work. All sorts of questions, and one of the things it does is figure your BMI (body mass index) according to your weight and height.

Now, several of you on this site have met me, and you know that I come by my handle "BigV" legitimately. I am a big man...6'5 with a large frame, and now at 310 after losing about 40 pounds after my hip replacement, hoping to lose about 35 more. So yes, I know I'm over weight and need to lose a few more pounds...but what the BMI charts say I SHOULD weigh is just ludicrous.

According to our health assessment website, I should weigh between...156-211 pounds. I graduated high school in 1984 at 217 pounds and was skinny as a rail. If someone saw me at 156 pounds they would probably run the other way I would look so scary. Heck, at 200 pounds I'd look like someone on their deathbed. I just can't believe a health insurance company that's supposed to be on the cutting edge is still using flawed charts fro the 1940's to access "proper" weight.

Me at about 200 pounds during bball season senior year, and in auto shop class probably around 210.

So if I weighed 220 pounds right now, I'd look like Skelator but would be considered overweight by health chart standards. By the way I weighed 230-235 while in the Army.

Agree 100% BMI charts are a joke. I'm 6'2 215 and nearly in obese category and I would consider myself in pretty decent shape. I would have to get to 190 to be "normal". Very close to what I was in HS.

That's me 32 years ago, and yep I was pretty fit but thin for sure. Add about 100 pounds to that frame and boom, me today...which is about 35 more pounds than I should have but working on it.

I watched BigVaccineMan get on a talking scale once.

Classic Miller Lite t-shirt at school :lol2:

Miller had a large brewing plant in my hometown...my dad worked there, as did Richard's dad I think (the guy wearing the tee shirt). Miller was good for the community insofar as jobs, tax base, etc. Of course you could also smoke and chew/dip at school back then too, and carry guns to school as well. Any time of the year you could go through the parking lot and have a hard time counting all the guns in the gun racks in the back window of the trucks.
