Webster outscored Henderson 27-8 in the second half. Newtons adjustments at half by far the difference in this game. It appeared to me that Smithhart got away from his game plan coming back out beginning of the third. He appeared to me he slowed the game down, almost trying to protect the 8 point lead. Edmonson dominated the boards in the second half. Yates hits back to back threes and the Colonels had no answer for Stubbs. The Trojans struggled some in the first half but dominated all aspects in the second. Jon Newton one of best coaches in the second if not the best. After not getting out of the region last year with that senior loaded team, Coach Smithhart has some work to do to get in the conversation with Newton.

Webster County has a great coach. Maybe the best in the region. He seems to do more with less every year. A perfect example is the way they played Hopkinsville in the region championship last year.

Webster County can play some defense now!

Wonder if Hendo is happy that they hired Smithhard over Newton? Looks like it is not working out for the local boy?

I think it is unfair to say that Newton was the difference in that game. Give the kids some credit. It didn't seem like many adjustments were made at the half. Looked like Henderson's inexperience just got the better of them. Didn't really recognize any of those Henderson kids last night so this was probably a big stage for them. The Newton hero worship is interesting. As Madisonville native that follows the region very closely, it seems like this is the first year Newton has ever beat Smithhart- even in Christian County's rebuilding year (2012?) when Webster was heavily favored to win. We will see if Newton is as good as you all think he is when he graduates his whole team this year like Henderson did last year.

Of course the players deserve a lot of credit which I gave but they have to have direction as to what works. Only thing I know was enough adjustments were made to go 27-8 last half.

I wasn't at the game but I can give you a solid opinion on Newton. He slows the game down and runs lots of sets to get his best players shots ,they play good defense and hit the glass. He works hard, develops relationships with the kids, and doesn't put up with nonsense.

Smithhard cannot adjust to game situations and his players were not prepared. Starnes was a great coach and he was run off for the home town product. Guess they got what they wanted?

Saw that Webster lost to Christian County by 32 earlier. I think that Webster has made some improvements, and I'd like to see that rematch.

Webster hasn't got any better in my eyes. They haven't beat a team with a winning record. They were suppose to be Henderson, henderson had two kids that played mins last year and they didn't start. Newton is a better coach than Smithhart but that isn't saying he is best in region. Hoptown, Christain, and Madisonville have really good coaches too.

Honestly, WHAT DOES IT MATTER IF WE MEASURE WHO'S BETTER THAN WHO! All can coach, or they would not have been hired in the first place. All have strengths and weakness...period.

 

Just like us 9-5 people who have strengths and weakness in the work place. Ours is just not in the newspaper, TV or online during primetime.
