Wes would be a great choice. Already knows the kids and the offensive/defensive schemes that are in place and keeping those things the same will be a good way to get the most out of the athletes currently in place without drastic changes.

From what I can remember reading, they are almost all pretty young (under 30), so I'm not really sure how many of them would be in a position to actually be considered for it. With that being said, with what they've done in the last 2 years compared to the 50 years prior, I would trust that they are a pretty good staff to have around.

Agreed. So smart move is hire Wes, keep staff in place, add another coach and continue in an upward direction.

Good guy just not for head coach!! It's not about this year (anyone could coach that team next year to the same record they had last session) it's about the future and getting a QUALIFIED coach for years to come.

I am curious, what exactly makes for a "qualified" candidate? Is it simply time served as an asst coach? If that is the case then there are countless candidates that are "qualified". With the exception of Gay, I do not see that Adair has always sought out the most "qualified" applicant, and in this particular case, I do not know that there are many teaching options available to entice a current coach to make a move to Columbia. I am sure there are one or two guys on staff that would do well. As said before, continuity has to be the focus and that is an uphill battle with the group in Adair

Staff... One was a kicker, one hasn't coached in a few years till last season, 2 never even played the game before in there lives, another in his 2nd season, and a collage kid....GREAT GUYS NICE TO HAVE ON STAFF BUT NIT QUALIFIED TO BE THE HEAD COACH!!!!!!

They might not be posting (which you would be suprised at who is posting on these threads) but I'm sure they are reading them.

 

Many jobs now comes down to rather or not a teaching position. You can't expect a guy to take a coaching position and not have a teaching position.

It's pretty sickening to see how they hire anymore. What happened to just hire the best football coach that has applied? What happened to giving everybody a fair shot at a job? It's amazing at the people hiring for these positions and most never even played a down of football for example. Yet another glaring reason why more and more people are giving up on coaching because administrators have no clue.

Adminstrations and lack of support is running a lot of good coaches off.

I guess he was coaching in Cumberland Co. Where he was teaching these last few years!!!
