Got to say this, basketball rules are complex, and it is the toughest job in the gym. Hard, aggressive play leads to bam-bam action that can generate lots of questions about whom did what. Fans always judge from their perspective and ignorance of the complex rules. I am a fan and guilty as charged.

Team control is not lost during a loose ball. It remains with the offense until the defense SECURES the ball.

I know that rule it's about position. Once ball is knocked from his possession by a defensive player it doesn't matter who it touches last before going in to backcourt they may recover it. Team control is totally different it's what needed for timeouts or if our team would have thrown it to another teammate backcourt it would have been over and back because of team control.

Again, incorrect.

 

You must have PLAYER CONTROL to call a timeout. Team control exists while the ball is being passed. However, you cannot be granted a timeout while the ball is being passed. That should tell you that team control is not enough to call a timeout.

If the following occurred then it's a violation:

 

Team control in front court (if player was dribbling then that's met)

Offense was last to touch in the front court (hitting off leg and no one else touching it meets this)

Offense was first to touch in backcourt (sounds like it was)

 

Am I right on all 3 of those? If so, violation. Did the officials possibly miss that the ball hit the dribbler's leg?

"Possession" is not a term used in the rulebook in regards to this subject.

 

You are probably referring to "player control." Player control is not required for a backcourt violation.

 

So, again, which of the 3 requirements was not met?

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to help, but let's try:

 

Team contol exists when a team member first dribbles or hold the ball inbounds.

 

Team control ends when the ball becomes dead, the defense gains control or a shot is taken.

 

None of the 3 of these occurred in in this exchange. Team Control does not end because the ball is loose....

 

I beg of you, for all that is holy from A-Town, please do not continue to argue this point....it's not becoming of your apparent position and relationship to basketball.

 

BTW: in your defense, this is one of the most misunderstood and mis-officiated calls in the game. I believe we have proven why in this thread
