They went 28-7 last year and only had 1 senior on their KHSAA roster. What happened?

Just when you think KY is starting to get somewhere :idunno:

I hardly think a tiny private school not fielding a team is a sign that KY is headed in the wrong direction. It's definitely unfortunate for a handful of kids, but I don't think it means anything about the state of softball in KY in the big picture.

I hope those kids get to play softball. That would stink.

Roster numbers in softball in high school grade levels are down in a lot of places. Without middle school students playing up, there would be a lot of teams that couldn't field a varsity team.

Actually, the exact opposite @sweet16. I was the AD @ a 6A sized school & without middle school student-athletes playing up on softball we wouldn't have had enough players to field a team.

Do you think a problem might be is that there is so many more sports offered plus more for kids to do outside of school?

I think some of it is the growing divide between rec ball/casual players and travel ball players. I have seen some girls who would be a safety risk if they were put on the same field with the more advanced girls. So I think softball is losing some of those casual players who used to have a place on high school teams. I don't know if they are going to other sports or quitting all sports, but I see it.

I didn't have a lot of crossover @sweet16. I do feel that kids do have more outside things that are pulling them from the time commitments that after school athletics require.
