Keep an eye on the upcoming St. X versus Bowling Green opener. This game features a top ranked 3A opponent playing a top ranked 4A opponent. Generally, a 4A team would be favored over a 3A squad, if for nothing else because of the disparity in the numberof male students at the 4A school. However, this game features several interesting exceptions to the rule.

1. St. X traditionally starts the season slowly.

2. The game will be played in Bowling Green (Western Kentucky University).

3. One recent article selected the top twenty-five football players in the state this year. Of those twenty-five, three or four played for Bowling Green and one for St. X.

4. This game is a rematch of last year’s opener and Bowling Green gave St. X all they could handle before falling just short. Bowling Green returns a number of starters; St. X. returns three starters.

There are those in the eastern Kentucky area that feel that Raceland could very well beat Ashland in the opening week. Traditionally that would be an upset.

Please don't give those guys any bullinten board material.  :D

I am suprised that someone had not put this earlier. It should be a really good one

Just out of curiosity, who do you have for the three returning starters at St. X.? The only two I know of are Victor Anderson and Corey O'Daniel.

Given their lack of experience, and having only one Top 25 athlete versus four for Bowling Green, if St. X. leaves the Rafferty's Bowl with a victory, it should be catagorized as an upset.

Again is it nice and comfortable down there in the trenches surrounded by all those sandbags Ox? :D

Time to get up to speed on modern warfare, Pep. Sandbags, even when filled with re-inforced concrete, are useless in this day of "bunker-busting bombs." As I noted above, the Purples have four of these bombs to only one for the Tigers, plus we are venturing deep into their home territory. Bowling Green has installed "Bouncing Betty" mines in numerous areas beneath the WKU turf field, and only they are privy to their exact locations. I feel like I have just received an invitation to a Shock-and-Awe Party in the Roman Colosseum, where I am the Christian and they are the Lion...WHOA IS ME!! :scared:

Considering this being the first game for both X and BG, I think any coach would first want to get off to a good start, "W" and no injuries....! I too, will be satisfied with a "W" in the back pocket upon returning to Louisville. This will be quite a task, we will see if X is prepared and up to the challenge. Is it game day yet....?

You may be correct about the number of returning starters. Either way, it may be a difference without a distinction. Having said all of this, and with tongue firmly in cheek, I venture to state that St. X will head down to Bowling Green, show up for the game, and tried to stumble through it in a manner that hopefully avoids abject humiliation. If X can hold the margin of defeat to within thirty-five points, would you consider the game a successful venture?:D By the way, this is not a sandbag free zone.

With that attitude I certainly hope the big "R" in your avatar does not represent "Orange Country".But in all honesty, I think I know it belongs," just a little farther up the road".

We have to believe that way:thumb: And I guarantee that Ashland also believes in their cause. It is an honor to play the Tomcats just to experience some of their storied tradition.

I'll be the craziest zealot out there and say Manual over Brentwood Academy.

That would be a huge win for Manual. I saw Brentwood a few years ago. If they are still the same kind of team as when I saw them ( probably are) then their size will be an issue for you. They make KY teams look small. But I thought the same thing about Elder the last time we played them, and look what happened.

Indeed. I believe speed will be Manual's strength again this year. I really don't know what to expect, being they've got to reload on just about every position. But anything can happen in the offseason. I'm ready for anything from a 2-9 to a playoff-bound season. I'm just hoping the whole under-the-radar approach will give Manual an advantage.
