According to Sporting News 2006 High School Football publication the Trinity Shamrocks have been ranked 27th in the Nation. They also received a nice write up including 2005 record, Coach info, Key Players, Biggest Strength and Question Mark...and a 2006 Outlook overview.

 

In a Regional ranking (Midwest) they are ranked 6th with Louisville Male ranked 16th.

 

Individually Chase Minnifield (DB) from Henry Clay was listed as 41st in the Midwest Region Top 100 recruits. Chase Dumphord (OL) from Paris,KY is listed 53rd. Victor Anderson (RB) from Louisville St. X was listed 84th, Doug Beaumont(WR) of Louisville Male is listed 87th and Brent Slusher (OL)from Bell County is number 100.Midwest Region.

 

Additionally Brian Brohm is listed 23rd out of 25 as one of the Top 25 Quarterbacks of the Modern Era......Elway #1, Marino #2, Manning #3

Thanks for the info.... nice publicity for the Rockmen! The top 100 is interesting... I would have thought the Bowling Green lineman would have been in there. .... and no mention of St. X in the Midwest ranking is probably a mistake (if Male is 16th).

I thought the same re: St. X and went back and double checked myself.....nothing...just went back and looked in the Midwest section....they get a mention under Midwest Notes: "....St. Xavier (Louisville, KY) returns 5 veterans from last years 14-1 team, including West Virginia-bound running back Victor Anderson (5-9, 170)....

Given that St. X is only returning 5 guys according to that publication, why should they be ranked? Already proclaiming Brohm one of the top 25 QB's of the modern era? I think that's a bit premature considering he hasn't played a full season yet. I think he's a tremendous player, but it's too early to say he's up there with Elway, Marino and Manning. What did they have Leinert or Quinn ranked?

Leinart is ranked # 20 and Quinn did not make the Top 25. This is from a Sporting News publication. I bought the last copy at Barnes & Noble in Springhurst......Books-A-Million on Breckinridge had a few copies left last night or you can order on line at the Sporting News website....just Google "Sporting News"

I'm a UL fan, but honestly, how do they justify putting Brohm up there with Leinert (Heisman/National Title) and leaving off Quinn, who finished 3rd in the Heisman voting last year, is preseason favorite this year and has been predicted to be the #1 pick overall in next year's draft? If Brohm sticks around and is healthy for the next two years, I think you could list him with those guys, but I think after 1 1/2 seasons, it's a bit premature.

Maybe, maybe not. Look at his high school stats and what he has accomplished so far at U of L. Not too shabby.

Remember, this is coming from a Brohm fan/UL fan. He has thrown for 3,700 yards in his career. There were five guys that threw that much just last year. His 25 career TD's was eclipsed by eleven QB's total in just one season last year.

 

I think Brohm has a shot at being a Top 25 all-time if he stays healthy and sticks around for two more years. No way can be mentioned with those guys right now. Especially when someone like Quinn (who threw for more yards and TD's last year than Brohm has thrown in his career) isn't mentioned with those guys yet.

I was kinda wondering about that too...

I see no problems with Trinity being ranked. I personally think that Male will be the better team, but national rankings tend to look at what a team did last year and the number of returning players. Trinity won the state title. I just think Male has more returning talent. Coverdale's return will be a wild card though.

 

Any KY team that is ranked is great for the state. The fact that three teams were mentioned and two were ranked (at least regionally) is fantastic!

in an attempt to clear up the "Brohm Debate" - why he is listed and other's were not, i.e. Quinn, etc. it states in the opening of the article this:
