The BGP Class A rankings

Featured Replies

Jumper1 or other Somerset fans I am hearing numbers are way down this year. Is there any validity to this? I know the Jumpers were lucky last year when they had a few injuries that they had good people to step in.

Yes, Somerset's numbers are somewhat down this year. SomersetFootball could tell us more accurately but I believe that somewhere between 26-30 players. At one time the cound was 26 but I've heard that maybe a few more freshman and upperclassman have showed up. Some of this may be due to a large Senior class last year and a small 8th grade group that have moved up. Numbers should move up some next year with a larger 8th grade group from Meece Middle this year. I don't have the exact number of Seniors on this year team but I believe that its around 8.

The number of Seniors on the team this year...15

1. Newport Central Catholic

2. Beechwood

3. Danville

4. Somerset

5. Bardstown

6. Mayfield

7. Louisville Holy Cross

8. Lynn Camp

9. Pikeville

10. Russellville

I didn't see these posted anywhere except for the front page. I thought Mayfield might be higher but saw what they were losing in the preview. Russellville could be a team to watch.

I personally think that Lynn Camp and Somerset are ranked way above their abilities...There is no way they should be infront of Pikeville...JMO.

Hmmm ... Somerset beat Pikeville 35-7 last season and appears to have at least as much coming back as the Panthers. What do "you know" that the BGP panel doesn't?

BGP had Somerset ranked way above Pikeville in 03 for sure and 04 too I believe. Anyways Pikeville won at Somerset in 03 and had Somerset blown out before halftime in the playoff game at Pikeville in 04. If Pikeville and Somerset meet up in Pikeville again in the playoffs this year, Pikeville should take care of business. But this is only a preseason poll, things always look a lot different by the end of the year.

Somerset was ranked #8 in the final BGP poll of 2003 ... ahead of Pikeville, yes, but not all that high.

In 2004, Pikeville was ranked all season. Somerset wasn't.

In any case, what happened in their matchup in 2005 would appear to be more relevant to this season than 2003 and 2004.

You need to check your facts. Somerset was ranked #8 in the final BGP poll of 2003 ... ahead of Pikeville, yes, but not all that high.

I'm talking about the preseason poll. You need to check your facts. Somerset was ranked higher than Pikeville in the 03 preseason poll, Pikeville won...Not sure about 04, but Pikeville won big. In 05, Pikeville was ranked higher than Somerset in the preseason poll and Somerset won. So the BGP panel hasn't had it right for at least 2 of the last 3 years which team was the better of the two, in the preseason poll. Again, it's just a preseason poll and things are always a lot different by the end of the year.

In any case, what happend in 03 and 04 should have been relevant to the 05 result, shouldn't it? No, it shouldn't and it wasn't, and last year's game at Somerset will not be relevant at all to what happens this year.

You need to check your facts.
My facts are correct and verifiable.

Needless to say, the BGP poll at the end of the season should be more relevant than the preseason poll that is released three or four months before the playoffs.

But if that's the axe you want to grind ...

You're twisting my words.

As are mine. You responded to my original post with a whole different argument.

Exactly, I was saying the same thing in a different way.

But if that's the axe you want to grind ...

Now who's twisting. No axe to grind, I really enjoy the BGP rankings.

You're twisting my words.

Just making a point. 2005 result has no relevance.

As are mine.
Hardly. You also said you thought that Somerset was ranked ahead of Pikeville in 2004, and they were not.

Just making a point. 2005 result has no relevance.
It does at this time of the year, especially since many of the same players on the field that night will be so again this season.

Whatever. I was talking about preseason and you were talking about postseason. Then you edited your post.

As for being relevant, it hasn't been in the past, as the results of the games have proven.

Every time you post something to me, it is combative in nature. So the mods don't have to step in and break us up, I'm putting you on ignore to solve this little problem.:creepy:

... said nothing about the preseason poll.

This thread is about the 2006 BGP preseason poll...it's not stated in the thread title, but I think (almost) everyone knows...

you guys crack me up.......
