Billy Joel in Tampa

Featured Replies

@TAC wanted a rundown, since he's going to the concert in Cincinnati. Here it goes...

Amalie Arena seats 22,000 for concerts and there was not one empty seat tonight. We had nose bleed seats, 2nd to the last row at the top of the arena, to the left of the stage. Initially my daughter was disappointed, but with the jumbotron, we saw all of it and had a great time. Billy sounded great considering he's 66 years old, now.

He did a verse of "Rebel Rebel" as a tribute to Bowie.

"In the Middle of the Night" segued into "Take it Easy" and back into "In the Middle of the Night" as one tribute to Glen Frey. Billy also sang "Desperado".

The encore included a Zeppelin tribute with "Whole Lotta Love" segueing into "Big Shot" segueing into "Rock and Roll". One of Billy's guitarists does a great Robert Plant. It sounds like an odd combination describing it, but it really worked well.

Regulation ended with "Piano Man". Encore ended with "You May Be Right".

I caught him last year in Atlanta. Great, great show.

Saw him in '81 and '85. One of my favorite shows. Wouldn't mind seeing him again.

Every thing sounds great except for the seats! I would have moved down to the front row :)

Nice recap, sounds like a great show. I want to go see Billy Joel in the next year or so, but refuse to go see him at US Bank. Have looked into going to NY or Wrigley to watch him but haven't finalized any plans yet.

When I saw him during the Storm Front tour, ended up getting the very last row, at the very top of the Coliseum in Cincinnati. We got there waaaay too early, but went ahead and went on up to our seats, just to see where they were. Got all the way up there, and had a laugh about how far away we actually were.

Hadn't been there more than a minute, when a security guard came up to us and asked to see our tickets. We hand them to him, he takes a quick glance at them and says "These seats suck. Let me give you a couple a little closer." He proceeds to pull a wad of tickets out and peels two off and gives to us. Says we'll have to show them to the guard down at the floor entrance.

We walked down and came in at the end opposite of the stage. Tickets said "Row BB", so I figured we'd be towards the back, after rows ...X, Y, Z, AA, BB, etc. Tunes out it was just the opposite...we were in the 2nd row! There were 3 or 4 rows up front, that were ALL filled the exact same way as we got ours. Needless to say, everyone was pumped. Was probably 15-20 feet away from Billy when he was at the piano.

Vienna was also an audience vote. The other choice was "This is the Time".

When he was telling everybody that they'd have to chose between two songs, he said, "We just don't have time to do them all." The audience groaned to which he replied, "Cut me a break. I'm 66 years old." :)

Looks like I had the end confused, but I was enjoying it too much to care. :D

Love me some BJ! My XM radio is locked on Channel 18. Seen him live several times. Gonna try and catch his show in Cincy.
