Lol. You keep throwing bricks, I will keep throwing small 10mm chunks of metal at 1250 feet per second.

Well, I hope if that ever happens we are on the same side.:ylsuper:

To be fair pretty much no hang gun round will have enough punch to literally knock someone down. And pretty much no human can live with 15 hand gun rounds in their chest.

It's funny, my grandfather the WW2 vet once told me, if you want to kill a man with one shot, shoot him at close range with a .22 center mass. Bullet bounces off everything it hits.

I don't know if I subscribe wholly to that theory, but I understand the premise.

My uncle that is a retired police officer has told me the same thing. Claims that you can get shot in the chest and the bullet may exit out the neck. It makes sense, since it travels at a high velocity but not not have the mass to penetrate hard objects, it essentially just bounces off. He also said that the .22 round kills more people per year than any other round in this country.

I wouldn't consider a .40 with some extra powder behind it a small round lol. I've mentioned before that the 10mm is my favorite self defense round for a handgun. Just don't have it in me to buy one due to the price per round lol.

A bit off subject, but opinions on Winchester Black Talon ammo.

Where did you find Black Talon? It has a cult following.

Common carry ammo true. But, I bet I could knock anyone down with 454 Casull and 460 or 500 S&W Magnum hallow points lol.

To shoot 10mm you have to buy 1000 at a time or reload. I am reloading.

I had a .460 Mag. Bought it to deer hunt with. Thought it would be cool to shoot a deer out at 100+ with a pistol. UM, that's nearly impossible. Sure it shoots that far but I can tell you even with a ridiculously expensive scope on that thing, I challenge anyone to hold still enough with that thing to consistently group at that range. However, if you're dumb enough to stand still at close range and be shot with one, I GUARANTEE it would knock you down. And the price of ammo will knock you down as well. Bought a box of Corbons and had to get a loan.

Bought them from a guy. 2 boxes of 44mag, 3 boxes of 9mm.

I wouldn't mind having one with an 8 inch barrel to shoot more for range shooting and bear defense while back packing in KY or from alligators while winter backpacking in the Florida keys.

At the range I would shoot 45 Colt and 454 Casull.

The .460 shot the 454 Casull in it, and they were less abusive to the shooter (me) and less espensive by a wide margin.

A friend and I were talking about the 10mm auto last night, he's a big glock fan and has a glock29. We got to talking about the price difference between the .40 S&W and the 10mm and he told me that the glock29 will accept .40 ammo. I don't doubt that it will accept it, but am curious if it would be a safe round to fire, due to the shorter casing. Have you heard anything about people firing .40s&w rounds in 10mm handguns, ever tried it yourself?

Your friend is correct, 10mm guns like the Delta Elite, some 1911's chambered in 10mm and all three 10mm Glocks WILL accept the shorter cased .40 S&W but I don't recommend it. The reason is the throat of the barrel.

If he pulls out his G29 barrel and looks down it, he will see a circular shaped ridge approx an inch down the chamber of the barrel. That ridge is what the opening of the case rests on when a round is chambered. The breech of the slide with the tension provided by the recoil spring presses the round from the rear against that ridge to provide great stability for the chambered round to be ready for the round to be detonated. The extractor is not having to hold the round. If you put the shorter .40 S&W case in a 10mm barrel, the case opening does not reach the ridge and so the round is resting in the chamber with only the extractor providing stability which it was not designed to do so when the boom happens, that could put quite a lot of pressure on the extractor. Also, at detonation, the projectile has to "jump" that gap between the case opening and the ridge since the projectile doesn't reach the ridge. Is jumping that gap a bad thing? I don't know but I don't like the idea of it.

To avoid that risk, I bought a 10/.40 conversion barrel from Lone Wolf Distributors for approximately $80. The barrel is throated identically to the .40 S&W so I can shoot all the .40 I want safely which will be nice when I go to a multiple day hand gun training that will involve shooting 500 rounds. I don't want to shoot 500 hundred rounds of 10mm because I don't think I would be able to reclaim my 10mm cases to reload them and I have thousands of used .40 cases so I don't mind losing 500 of those.

I wanted to add because may ask if I don't think it is a good idea to shoot the shorter .40 in a 10mm why I am find shooting the shorter .38 Special in my Smith and Wesson 686 .357 Magnum. The answer is the difference between the rims on the cases of revolver rounds (.38 special, .357 Mag, .44 Special, .44 Mag, etc.) versus the rims of cases of semi auto rounds (10mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, etc.). Revolver rounds have flared rims which are designed to fit flush in the revolvers cylinder and there for be well stabilized. Semi auto rounds are considered rimmless because they are flush to the sides of the chamber so they will fit inside of and feed out of a magazine better. Without a flared rim, the cartridge is dependent on the ridge inside the barrel for stability.

Thanks for the info, that's pretty much on line with what I was thinking. I knew there would be a gap, a small one, but a still a gap. When I mentioned that to him, he didn't really have a response, when I asked him if that would be safe, lol. So I figured I'd ask someone who may know more about that before he blows his hand off.

On the other hand, with the barrel conversion options these days I am seriously considering a 10mm as my next handgun. I had my eye on the Walther PPQ for a while because I love the trigger and I'm a Walther fan. But all this talk about the 10mm has me wanting one and Walther has no 10mm options that I know of. I'm not sure how I feel about the glock29 though, it seems a bit small for the 10mm, unless you use the lighter loads that are more like a .40s&w.
