January 12, 201610 yr He's just one of those guys. He'd have been one of the people saying the same thing when they outlawed the flying wedge a hundred years ago so that people would stop dying. I think the real problem for fans may take on the form of perceived "softness", but for a lot of us it's just that we can't wrap our heads around the way the rules work. It's been a few seasons now and I still don't understand what does or doesn't constitute "targeting" in the college game.

He felt that competing directly with the NFL would force a merger and get the USFL owners a huge return on their investment. He swung and missed on that idea.
