I didn't think the match-ups were all that intriguing to start with, outside of the playoff games.

 

The only one that intrigued me at all was OSU - Notre Dame.

I love the Bowl games and I really like the games that mean nothing to the championship...you see trick plays, you see teams trying new stuff and you get early looks at how some teams will look going into next year as several start to transition to younger players during the bowls.

 

I just like watching football, I guess. If a game get's one sided I'll start to focus on one on one matchups between key players on each play.

 

If the BCS (Which EVERYONE hated and said it need to be replaced by a committee) was still in place you would have still gotten the same four schools in the playoffs.

Clemson-ACC Champ and Undefeated #1,

Alabama-SEC Champ,

MSU-Big10 Champ and

Oklahoma-Big 12 Champ(and perceived best playing team in the country)

would have all still been in the playoffs.

I loathe the bowls for exactly the same reasons I loathe so many things about American sport: a game held back from greatness for the benefit of a few moneyed interests. Expand the playoffs, do away with pointless exhibitions that cost schools money and time and let's get on with basketball.

I agree. I didn't turn the TV off due to any blowouts. Close, competitive games would have been better, sure, but it's still football.

 

I never remember the bowl season being chock-full of great games, even the marquee bowls. Frequently, one team doesn't show up at all and gets shellacked. It's just the way it is for exhibition games. At least with the playoffs there's something on the line for those two games.

 

I think people are also complaining now because Clemson and Alabama ended up in the championship and they likely would have under the BCS system anyway. But I am so much happier Mich. St. and Oklahoma got to test their mettle first instead of the inevitable doubt we would have heard under the BCS, i.e. "Oklahoma deserved to be in the championship, Alabama is getting in on SEC bias," etc.

This. For me at least, when I know next to nothing about either team playing, football is a much more entertaining sport to watch.

b) not competing with people getting drunk on New Years Eve

We disagree! I really like college football... right up through the first weekend of December. Once the bowls start, I tune out. I love the game and want it to be as good as it possibly can be and, in my opinion, this system ain't it.

There were plenty of great games and some great stories that you missed this year and every year if that's what you really do. Yesterday for example as Iowa was getting pasted, it was worth watching the game to see Christian McCaffrey. Ole Miss pounded OSU last night but to see the difference in a season for Ole Miss was great...last year they got pounded, saw what it took and made their team better and put on a show last night. If all you judge a games worth on is the final score then I don't know what to say, but I think you know football better than that to think the only measure of a good game is the final margin.

 

Your tuning out of Bowls is more due to the fact that you hate the business model of ALL sports in the US, not that there isn't good football to be seen.

To be clear, I had the games on most of the time.
