gold sunrise Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Ashland had the game plan and played patient ball and made GRC play their style. Great defense by Ashland as GRC only hit one 3. Best of luck to Ashland in the finals tomorrow against Elliott Co. GRC will face Newport.
gold sunrise Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Scoring: GRC Cornelius 13 Anderson 9 Mentchen Cooper 2 Jenkins 5 Taylor 2 JJ Johnson Graham 7 Philpot Israel 5 Ashland Christin Villers 37 Copley 11 Chase Villers 8 Lucus 2
Backspin Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Ashland played well. Kids played hard and look more relaxed without having to look over their shoulder. GRC has some athletes just didn't shoot it well. Not sure if that has been the pattern for them or not this season. My guess is 34 can shoot it as Ashland overplayed and face guarded him the entire game.
TexasRanger Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Wow... Villers had 37 against a decent grc defense, that's a solid night.
Backspin Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Third quarter GRC trapped out of 1-3-1. Ashland coach made an adjustment and moved Villers to the baseline and when the ball was reversed he was open for a short corner jumper or drive to the rim.
JDEaston Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 This Ashland team makes me smile. Very well coached and even though they are young, they do have some talent to work with. Hats off to the kids for giving it their all and coach Howell for an excellent coaching job. To be completely honest, I don't believe coach Howell is a slow it down type of guy, but he knew that's what he needed to do tonight and had a great gameplan. GRC has a solid but young team and a great coach as well. They made adjustments using pretty much every style of zone defense known to man, full course press to try and soeed the game up, and a trap that caused Ashland problems. I think GRC will eventually turn the corner this season and I believe their future is bright, they truly are a young squad. Did I mention this Ashland team makes me smile? What a difference a year makes.
Randy Parker Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I really thought GRC would avenge the previous loss to the Tomcats. Hat's off to Ashland for controlling this one from tip to final horn.
LRCW Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Another nice win for the Tomcats. I continue to be impressed by Coach Howell. A coach that coaches to the strength of his team instead of implementing his system no matter if he has the players to play that system or not. What a novel concept.
40391 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Athletes find a way to score. This team can't find the bucket other than the 3 seniors. Tired of hearing how the sophomores will develope over the years. We playing ball now so step up.

I agree and a coach has to adjust to his talent rather them adjust to his to get the wins. I enjoyed watching him coach.
GRC Hoops Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Athletes find a way to score. This team can't find the bucket other than the 3 seniors. Tired of hearing how the sophomores will develope over the years. We playing ball now so step up. Looking at the stats you can clearly see that sophomores such as Cooper and Taylor are shooting near 50% from the field. The sophomores are playing on a rotating basis and are not the major focus of the offense. https://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kybbk15/47314?id=stats_47314_0 Are you suggesting that the sophomores become the major focus of the offense?

Well if you want to win someone has to step up and basketball is a 5 man sport and all involved.....if you got talent and can score then a coach would see it. 5pts and 50% some games won't win. For years now we hear this is the year, this team has talent and for some reason it never comes to light. Just watch and you will see or keep convincing yourself of nothing.

40391 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Patience. It is a work in process. Same thing every year. But ok.....the program is down to low now. Last year could have been big if he used what talent he had. Coach has to change his system and adjust to players. His way isn't winning and outdated.
