December 30, 201510 yr Author Temple's RPI after the game was at 87...1 spot ahead of notable UK slayer Ohio State. UC dropped to 96.
December 30, 201510 yr Never, EVER thought I'd see a Mick Cronin team that didn't defend or rebound at a high level. Talented bunch that is going through the motions so far. Disturbing... I know Mick has to tone it down because of his health, but maybe somebody on staff needs to get them in a room and rip on 'em for a few minutes. :idunno:
December 30, 201510 yr I'll recount my one Temple story. Son used to date a girl whose brother played for the Owls. When they played Louisville in the NIT quarters several years back, we went to the game. Sat in the second row, a couple of seats from Buddy Ryan. After the game, the girlfriend's brother asked if we would like to come back and meet Coach Cheney. He came out of the locker room and talked with us for at least 10 minutes, like we were long-parted friends. He had just won a close game, his best player had just severely sprained his ankle (an ice show was going to be held in a couple of days and players were sliding all over the floor), and he still made time for some people he would never see again. COMPLETELY different persona than when on the court. As we were about to leave, I told him that I hadn't planned on meeting a HOF coach at the game, and asked if he would sign my ticket. He got one of his players to bring him a Sharpie from the locker room, then signed all 4 of our tickets.
December 30, 201510 yr This team is seriously lacking toughness at the defensive end. Really talented offensively but can't get stops or key rebounds. Not the same team that we saw last year that played with a chip on their shoulder down the stretch and fought to get in to the tournament. Ellis hasn't played with the anger and aggression/intensity that he played with last year. I much rather deal with him getting a T every few games and see him playing like he's mad at the world than how he has played so far. He looked much better yesterday as far as effort goes but I still don't think he is where he should be. Mick stated in his post game that the most "ticked" off player in the locker room after the game was Kyle Washington and he can't play to do anything about it. That's a problem. Some UC fans on GT's site want to complain about Mick but Mick has nothing to do with intensity and effort.
