December 30, 201510 yr I don't disagree with much of what you said, but who would replace him if he is replaceable? For me assuming Nelson doesn't give the Bengals a discount. I would sign Illoka since he will be cheaper now after being hurt all year. I would go with Illoka and Williams. Remember in the Bengals defense there really isn't a true strong and free safety. They expect both safeties to be able to cover and come up to tackle. So I think those two would start. Then as I mentioned I am high on the safety they took this year in the draft in Smith who is a ball hawking safety. Plus they still have Shaw who they could make into a full time safety since he kind of a cross between a corner and a safety. Don't get me wrong I love Nelson. However I just think his price tag will be to high now and that contract would hurt in signing other younger guys back and also hurt in future years because I don't think his play will equal the value of the contract he will get through the next few years. Let's not be like the reds and pay guys big money who won't play to value of contract and then hurt the rest of the team.
December 30, 201510 yr How has Pro Football Focus ranked Iloka the last couple of years? I will be honest I have no idea. However I also know pro football focus ranked Boling as one of the best guards earlier in the year and he has been exposed lately. He honestly is a signing that hurts the Bengals and I don't want the same to happen with Nelson. With Illoka last year he played pretty well when healthy, so I would say he ranked pretty good if you do want to go by their rankings.
December 30, 201510 yr It will be interesting to see how much the Bengals value him. The team that knows you the best is definitely the one to watch!

If so, how would you feel about franchising him and giving Williams, Smith, and Shaw one more year to develop?

December 31, 201510 yr I am fine with resigning Iloka since the price should be less, playing Williams and letting Nelson go if the price is too high. If Leon Hall can come back at a discount then I would like to see him fitting into a Chris Crocker hybrid type of role too.

If Leon Hall can come back at a discount then I would like to see him fitting into a Chris Crocker hybrid type of role too. Hall has done a fine job for the Bengals but he has to be real cheap for me to sign him again. If we let Reggie go I understand the logic behind keeping Iloka but I am still not sure I like it. Either way, expect the Bengals to draft heavy on defense this year. Or at least that is how I feel right now, no telling who the Bengals let walk and that will definitely change our focus.
