Totally agree. Joe Morris goes up a class...wins another one by running through a gauntlet to do so and is not 2A COTY....what a joke.

There will always be a little bit of controversy in these things, it doesn't diminish it in my opinion, just comes with the territory.

 

Coach Edge should be really satisfied with the award and display it proudly.

I'm surprised Coach Clevenger didn't get the 2A award also to be honest. No one except for @Wireman expected this type of season from Danville. Being up close and personal and seeing what Coach Clevenger has done at Danville in a short time is nothing short of impressive. The Ads are back.

I've watched a lot of Danville football the last 8 years or so. I could see something very different early this season. Different attitude, different style. I agree. Danville football is back.

I also think that Mark Perry of LexCath should have won the 3A COY award. I feel like despite the results of the final game that LexCath exceeded expectations multiple times this season.

 

I have no problem with Coach Haywood winning the award.

Very very happy for my dude Chris Larkey winning the award for 5A. He's done a fantastic job at North Laurel and I am grateful to be able to know that man and follow his success. Congratulations Coach!!!!!!!

Mark Perry has done a really great job at LC and would have been a deserving recipient of this award, no question.

 

My guess is Coach Haywood eclipsing the 400 win mark this season likely had a lot to do with the results. It was a historic year for him. The way Belfry marched through the playoffs, and ended it with that exclamation point in the finals probably helped too.

 

Coaching at a high level, consistently, year after year is an amazing thing. People expect teams like Mayfield, Belfry, Trinity, Highlands, etc., to always be there in the end but I don't think the coaching staff gets enough credit for making it happen. It is the accumulation of doing all the little things right, and then building on that throughout the year in a way that has your team peaking in November that allows teams to sustain that success. And that is an incredibly difficult thing to do.

 

It is natural to take those coaches for granted. Coach Morris at Mayfield is a prime example. Everybody just expects them to win and I don't think those coaches get enough credit for the work they do. Human nature I guess.

It is good to see him not suffer from the Michael Jordan Effect. Michael Jordan was always the best player in the league when he played but he didn't when MVP every year when he would have. Coach Haywood is very deserving every year.
