I had the pleasure of meeting Charlie Gearheart once, ten years ago or so, and what a fine person he is. He gave me all the cd's GCS had released, and sang a few songs that he was writing at the time. He is like one of those guys who is so nice and kind, it makes me think, "why can't I be better." January 9, 201610 yr If you like the Industrial sounds of NIN then you will like this band who opened up several shows for them. My cousin, an 88' Highlands Grad (Chris Schleyer) played lead guitar for these guys and is actually friends with Trent Reznor. Chris also later played with Industrial Rock band from Norway called Zeromancer, also Kidney Thieves and recorded guitar licks on an Album with A Perfect Circle. He almost toured with Maynard Keenan (Former Tool Lead Singer)and that group but lost the gig at the last minute to the former Smashing Pumpkins Guitarist James Iha. Maynard liked Chris so much though he asked him to tech for their tour so he did. Here is a good song called Animal. I can't name the group according to BGP filters. Lol. I can still picture a punk/goth girl in the audience radically screaming the band's name repetitively with her fist pumped in the air. She was cracking me up. Since this was their first and only album she was likely one of the few fans there who had previously heard of them, and she obviously was going to make sure everyone knew it. At the time I wasn't aware of who Chris Schleyer was and his local connection until a guitarist and close friend of mine who's a friend of Chris' and used to jam with him alerted me to him, and his success. I'm sure that I would have never heard of Zeromancer otherwise. I had high hopes for my buddy who's a great guitarist in his own right, but he settled for staying close to home and playing in local cover bands. Nonetheless I'm happy for him and that he still has an outlet to continue to play. Here's a video of by childhood pal Joe's cover band Iconx. In this video he is singing and playing lead guitar. January 9, 201610 yr Author Released in 1982 as a follow-up to "Hi Infidelity", REO Speedwagon's "Good Trouble", get lost in the mix of the success of the Hi Infidelity. Only one song from the album hit the Billboard Top 10, "Keep The Fire Burnin'", and for over 25 years it was the only song from the album played live in concert....and then only sparingly. I can remember playing the crap out of the cassette back in the day, and had not heard one song for about 20 plus years. It was not until about 2005 that I finally find a CD copy on Ebay. January 9, 201610 yr not a bad cover. Thanks for checking it out, and I agree that he does a good cover here. Joe is not known much as a singer, but I think he nails a decent tone for the song here while doing a great job with it on the guitar.

January 19, 201610 yr Though the band Yes is hardly obscure, in 1980 when vocalist Jon Anderson decided to take a break indefinitely, the band hired on Trevor Horn from the Buggles, famous for the first ever video on MTV with the song "Video Killed The Radio Star", to take Jon's place as their front man, as well as their producer. What evolved from that is their wonderful, but perhaps one of their least recognized releases in "Drama, which gave the band a decidedly new direction in their sound, while continuing to stay intricately progressive and emotionally moving, as well as still being unmistakably, Yes. This album is an artistic gem, and it ultimately gave way to their next release "90125" which brought the band some of its most commercial success with the single "Owner of a Lonely Heart", with Jon Anderson returning to the fold and sharing lead vocals with guitarist Trevor Rabin, with Trevor Horn again as producer, with the new direction sound becoming fully realized, prompting also their followup to that with "Big Generator", with the same players, and again Trevor Horn at the controls. Sure, Jon Anderson will always be known as the voice of Yes, but when Trevor Horn stepped in to lend his vocals what became was a Yes album that stands up right along side of all of their classics. I'm guessing that when people realized that Jon had taken a break from the band, so did some fans who missed out on an artistic masterpiece. January 19, 201610 yr Before the Christmas albums, Mannheim Steamroller (Chip Davis) produced the Fresh Aire series. It's some pretty eclectic stuff, which I happen to love. I have Fresh Aire 1 through Fresh Aire 7. My favorite is Fresh Aire 4 - Winter.
January 19, 201610 yr Though it wasn't at the time typical for what I was seeking musically, my fingers landed on this 1987 Alan Parson's release that intrigued me named Gaudi inspired after Antonio Gaudi the architect of the La Sagrada Familia never fully completed to this day intricately detailed cathedral in Barcelona Spain. The song "La Sagrada Familia" is powerful, and still to this day gives me goose bumps. The vocalist on it is John Miles who had a top 3 single in the UK with the song "Music" The vocalist on the also moving 4th track "Standing On Higher Ground" is Geoff Barradale who had a minor hit as lead singer of the band Vitamin Z with their very nice emotional song "Burning Flame" during the MTV era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBYkGEmYwf4 Those that know me, know that after Kansas, The Alan Parsons Project is my 2nd favorite "band".
