Actually there were 4. 3 on the players one on the Bellevue coach. It appeared mostly due to gum flapping and some pushing. Their big guy really lost his cool at the end of the game. This is the first time they have lost to a Dayton team in quite awhile. I'm sure that stings a little.

Technicals on the Bellevue players were on #3, #15 and #50. I am not sure if a coach got one or not. A couple of their players also had to be restrained by coaches when going through the line to shake hands as well, not really sure what that was about.

 

Kudos to the Dayton players for keeping their heads in a hostile environment like that on the road. They did get baited into some silly fouls, but no technicals for any of the players or staff.

 

After losing at least 8 in a row to Bellevue, it looks like Dayton finally renewed one of the best rivalries in the state. Because we all know it's only a rivalry if both teams win occasionally.

The (veteran) officials lost control of this game early, you know how it goes, they never see the first push or shove, always the second, i'm not condoning either. I'm not sure how they did not hear all the talking that was going on either.Seeing the referee smiling (the one that called the technical, actually I think he called 3 of the 4 technicals) while the player was shooting the technical didn't make sense either. Both these teams played extremely hard , if they continue to play hard (cut out the talking and shoving) they will have good years. The scene outside afterwards was very discouraging, kids will be kids, but I would have liked to have seen some adults acting like adults. I just hope that the next time they meet they can clean it up, I'm sure it will be good game. There were some great plays by both teams, but those will be overshadowed by some unnecessary action.Bellevue overcame a substantial deficit, put Dayton held on at the end.I hope if they do play again that I will be able to go watch that game. Take this for what it's worth, but I know that the previous 5 losses Dayton had to Bellevue did not produce the kind of "scene" that tonight did. i believe there was only 1 technical on a Dayton player in those 5 games combined and none of the players ever had to be restrained during the hand shake line. I'm not saying that either team is completely innocent in any of the chippiness (if that is a word), but seems a little too coincidental that it went THAT bad when the teams were on opposite ends of the score.

Was there punches thrown, or just a bunch of words?

Not sure who the officials were. I thought they were ok for the most part, probably missed a couple calls both ways. There were no punches thrown. It was just a physical game, both teams played hard and there were multiple times where multiple players went to floor for loose balls and got tangled up. This led to at least one of the technicals.

As far as afterwards, again I didn't see at as that big of deal. We Dayton fans just wanted to wait for our players (and children) to leave the locker room to congratulate them. The powers that be apparently felt it would be best for the gym to cleared and people wait outside. I only saw one kid who seemed itching for a fight, and it wasn't mine.
