Knott Central's New Coach is.....

Featured Replies

I have a feeling it is going to take more than a new coach to help KCC get back on the radar.

I say part of the problem is that Knott's enrollment is now about half of what it was when they first consolidated back in the '70s. Last year's 9-12 enrollment, according to the KHSAA, was 643. In their glory years KCC had over a thousand students. Numbers do make a difference. Perry Central is a strong factor every year because they have 1000 kids. You will shortly see the same from Letcher Central, another school with over 1000 students.

Knott may be strong in some years, but it's hard to stay that way every year without a large enrollment, or having a lot of talented kids suddenly move in from other areas and enroll.

KCC wiil be fine with Coach Amburgey...If the Knott County people on here would change the negativity to positive support things would be a lot better in Hindman.Justin brings a lot of energy to the program and believe me the KIDS are feeding off of it. Will Patriots be in the hunt for the 14th? That is yet to be seen, but don't count them out..This will be a solid ballclub! Their biggest task will be getting out of 53rd district which is loaded with Cordia, JBS, LCC, and Jenkins all with SOLID clubs!

No offense Pat Man, but "Justin" and "energy" are words that would never be in the same sentence. I'd tell him the same thing. To be nice I'll say mellow is a correct adjective. Maybe he's changed. On the contrary, while he was on the court he did assume a different personality, which usually meant he was all hustle. Maybe that is how he'll be while coaching. I'm glad for him and wish him all the best. He is a good guy.

I really hope that Justin can turn the team around and get more than 2 years at the helm. KCC's boys deserve better treatment than what they have been given in the past six years.

I always thought that David Jeff would come back and coach his boy?

That would have been the best bet for KCC...

Not really sure..to be honest...Mr.Stamper seems like he would make a good coach and I am not just saying that because his boy plays but mainly because he seems to be coaching material....and I am usually against parents coaching their children but that is what KCC needs..Justin just doesnt seem to get into a game like "Most" coaches do...but then again I am used to a coach getting up and screaming his lungs out and then calling a timeout just to scream some more.

Mr. Stamper was a good coach and I think he would have been a good choice to coach the patriots again, you make some good points--guess we'll have to wait and see....Justin seems to be a really nice guy the times I have met him but nice guys dont always make the best coaches.....we'll see

He does coach. No one is supposed to know that, though.

Stamper does coach, that is why they probably got rid of Coach Feltner! They probably didn't see eye to eye on things! I think Feltner did a great job and really got a raw deal out of it all. He done great with what he had and worked his butt off all of the time. You can only do so much with what you have and he was working on a good young team growing up together, but that is how it is in Knott county, if you do a good job they always get rid of you!(Jim Rose, Herbie Stamper, David J Stamper, J Honeycutt, N Feltner) All were good coaches and at the time they were let go were doing a great job, i don't know what the board wants out of these guys, maybe they need to suck it up and PAY a little bit and coaches will be a lot happier. But with the little that these guys did get, they still worked their butts off for this school and look what it got them. FIRED! Good luck to Justin, I just hope after he has a couple of good years with the young talent that coach Feltner has brought up, they don't treat him like the others in the past! Have a great season Pats!

Very well said.

The couple of games I saw this summer he was sitting there watching like the other/fans parents. What does he do give hand signals from the stands or some other code that no one knows

Let DJ enjoy watching Stuart play! DJ has no designs on coaching KCC. Most of the negative stuff comes from people (for whatever reason), who don't care much about DJ! Pat Dad pretty much bashes every coach at KCC except the baseball coach. Go figure!
