Team ends game with 2 players on the floor

Featured Replies

In a battle of two of the smaller schools in the state last night, St. Francis beat Walden 60-46. Walden started the game with only 5 players dressed. They had one player foul out in the third quarter, and then 2 more fouled out in the fourth, leaving Walden with 2 players in the game for the final 3 minutes. St. Francis spread the floor and just passed the ball around. It was quite the unusual scene.

The ending overshadowed a terrific performance by Walden's Michael Harris, who scored 34 of Walden's 46 points. That actually is a season low for Harris, who is averaging 37 points per game through 3 games.

I thought that the Mason County - Scott game was gonna end up that way (74 fouls called).

They just called another foul on Garrison. Jake Ohmer is driving up the AA to shoot free throws as we speak.

Well done by St. Francis. They obviously had a comfortable lead, no need to pile on against two players. Tough situation for Walden, though. Did they have kids out or do they normally only play five? I know it is a tiny school.

Would it have been within the rules for St. Francis to put only two players on the court - to match the only players that Walden had left - even though St. Francis had players on the bench? If you have five available, do you have to play five?

What;s the opposite of rare?

Walden has at least 1 player hurt, perhaps 2. I know they have a middle school team, but for whatever reason they don't have any of the younger players playing for the varsity.

Walden epitomizes the ups and downs of small school athletics. Last season, Walden had 15 players on its roster and went 14-16. They lost 6 seniors (including 6' 7" Charles Thomas, now playing for Spalding) plus some others not playing this year. So it is down to 6-7 players. Walden forfeited its first game this year due to a lack of players, finished another with 4 players, and then last night. Feel particularly bad for Michael Harris, who is a very nice player.
