I've only been to 5 but want to start going to a lot more: Grand Canyon Great Smoky Mountains Mammoth Cave Petrified Forest Saguaro I've been to Mammoth Cave many times. Through the caves, hiking, canoeing, and camping. Been to the Smokies numerous times too. When I was in middle school we took a trip to Arizona and saw all three of those. My Aunt lives in Tucson and I go every few years. We always make a trip to Saguaro.

December 7, 201510 yr I was lucky that my parents were big on National Parks as a kid. Plus the summer before my oldest's senior year of HS we took a month long driving trip around the western USA. So thanks to my mom and wife I've been to the following parks. Mammoth Cave Smoky Mountains Florida Everglades Badlands National Park Bryce Canyon Carlsbad Caverns Crater Lake Death Valley Grand Canyon Grand Tetons Hot Springs Mesa Verde Petrified Forest Redwood Forest Sequoia Shenedndoah Yellowstone Yosemite Also many of the national monuments including Craters of the Moon Devils Tower Little Bighorn There is so much out there it's stunning. Obviously the big ones are amazing but I really recommend Mesa Verde and Devil's Tower if you get the chance. Northwest and Alaska is our next goal.

December 7, 201510 yr How are these? They seem the easiest to hit from KY. I went to Cuyahoga Valley on a family trip when I was too young to really appreciate it. I was probably only 7 or 8, and I remember thinking it was like a bigger version of Clifty Falls State Park in Indiana. I don't know that they allow camping in the park, but it still has a several hikes to waterfalls though. I wouldn't mind going back nowdays to see what I think of it. Congaree was an awesome place for a canoe/fishing trip. I went for 3 days with some buddies. They allow backcountry camping, which was awesome. We pretty much lived off of bluegills we were catching the whole three days we were there. Canoeing through the old growth bald cypresses is a memory I'll never forget. Shenandoah was pretty awesome too. Went on a family camping trip there once with some of my extended family that lives in DC. We stayed in the modern campsites, but the park is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and has some pretty intense terrain for hiking, and offers some in-freaking-credible views. It's actually fairly comparable in some ways to the Breaks Interstate Park on the KY/VA state line in the Washington & Jefferson National Forest.

If you're into American history, I can't recommend the driving tours of Gettysburg and Yorktown enough. Would love to do Yorktown. We have to finish up various Civil War sites first. Gettysburg was amazing and not at all what we expected. I also never new that was where Dwight D. Eisenhower lived.
