I don't recall anyone getting defensive. Most just laugh because an OSU fan can't make a post on this site with out the word hater in it. It's beyond comical.

 

I don't the SEC chest thumping but I also can't understand the constant attempts to show they aren't at the top. Not sure who expends the most energy.

Did you even read my post? I said the SEC was at the top. All I said is the other conferences are pretty close behind. I was not bashing the SEC, just the people that proclaim them to be something their not.

Yes I read it, I even quoted it. The second part of my post was just a general comment, not directed at you specifically.

The SEC was overwhelmingly the most dominant conference for about eight years up until last season. Something close to conference parity has been achieved now.

 

I've heard a lot of people complain about how people should "cheer for a team, not a conference," and for the most part I agree, but you have to go back to 2006 to understand the mentality. Big Ten acolytes were demanding a rematch between Michigan and Ohio State for the championship and dismissing Florida as an also-ran who lost to an inferior team in an inferior conference. There was definitely a lot of smuggery going around from Michigan and Ohio St.'s large and vocal fanbases about Florida and the SEC. That was a good couple of months of sports discussion (one no doubt also colored by Auburn's being left out of championship talk a few years earlier).

 

Flash forward to Florida absolutely drubbing Ohio St. in the big game and I think a lot of people, particularly fans of SEC teams, were more than happy to return the favor to the sports chattering class. It only took a few more seasons for it to become apparent that the SEC was the cream of the crop. And due to the BCS's ranking system, a team that played a tougher schedule could find themselves on the outside looking in at the end of the season, which I think gave a lot of people a chip on their shoulder about how the SEC should be viewed when it came to BCS rankings (e.g. a one-loss SEC champ should be treated similarly to another conference's undefeated champ).

 

For the most part, that view of things was correct. It probably isn't anymore, but we finally have a playoff system that makes debates of this type null.

Other conferences are deep too. How many teams does the SEC have in top 10 right now? 1. B1G has 4. That's not including Northwestern who beat Stanford this year,Wisconsin (who just somehow always wins there bowl game just about every year against great competition),Penn State, Nebraska, and Minnesota. That leaves Indiana, Maryland, Illiois, Purdue, and Rutgers and I'd say they would be 50-50 with the garbage pile of football that is the bottom of the SEC like Vandy, South Carolina, Missouri, and sadly UK. I mean what's the difference? The upper echelon of teams in both conferences have somewhere from 0-4 losses. Neutral site between a decent B1G team like Penn State and a decent SEC team like Arkansas, the odds would be a pick em. So why is the SEC just leaps and bounds better? You aren't providing more evidence besides on the SEC has more players in the NFL, but the numbers are largely skewed by 2 teams. Teams top to bottom in most conferences are fairly equal. Yeah the SEC should be at the top of the list I won't deny you that, but it's a small margin. You all act like its the 3rd conference of the NFL.

 

 

 

The team with the 6th most players in the NFL from the SEC is Tennessee with 26, the Big 10 team with the most in the NFL is Ohio State with 27. That is the talent disparity from the recent years and the reason for the theory that the SEC has been the dominant conference. Has the gap closed, it seems it has...
