Edmondson will have to do a little more on the defensive side of the court if he is going to play a lot of minutes for the Wildcats. It is one thing to be a decent shooter, but he will have to play some defense also.

If anybody here thinks that Avery is going to fill in for Edmonson. Just realize that not only are they losing the talent of Nate but also the size. I think Nate goes around 6'3 while Avery stands around 5'7 or so.

To be fair, though, Nate has never "played big". He's a perimeter player offensively and defensively. I've always thought he was much more consistent defensively than offensively.

Finally someone hits the nail on the head...While Nate can put up big numbers from 3 point land, he isn't very consistent at times and will hurt your team sometimes by coming down and "jacking up 3 pointers from 30 feet out" as gryche said. Defensively though Nate is solid. Nate takes pride in his defense and can guard some of the best. The key to him being successful at Gallatin is confidence. A lot of time at Holmes he would get yelled at for taking such shots but if he has others around him that keep encouraging him like they did at Sk, he wont get down and he can drop 20 on you every night.

Nobody ever said Avery would fill the void left by Edmondson. I simply said he would come in and start and bring another ball handler and penetrator in to the line up which will open up more things for Duran and Austin outside. And Braeon hit a growth spurt over the summer. He is probably around 5'10 now.. he's bigger than Bj (his older brother that played last year). I mean it isn't 6'2-6'3 but Braeon is a solid defender and will take it to the basket and try to draw a foul, something Nate wouldn't do much of this year.

I'm so sick of hearing about Edmonson transfering or not transfering. It makes you wonder why this kid cant stay in one place. He had a great situation at SK but couldnt wait for the team to improve.

You don't have to be an Oj Mayo to make an immediate impact on another team. Nate will really help the Gallatin program this year and I'm not positive but I believe they are also getting a transfer from Tennessee who averaged 29 points this year for a solid program down there, but that situation could have fell through so dont quote me on that...just what I heard.

I dont think you can do the same with Avery. One other thing is Holmes really doesnt need another guard like Avery on the floor. You got Duran and Austin who can penitrate and create shots for their teammates they need someone who will knock down those shots. Avery is not a great outside shooter and neither is Duran so your relying on Austin to be your lone threat from behind the arc.

A couple nice points in that post. But you have to remember with Rice coming back you won't need a big player like Nate to guard someone that big. Had NAte stayed he wouldhave just been another guard and out on top. I understand where your coming from though and completely agree with you. But Avery will bring a more defensive minded player in to the line up. Avery wont blow you away with his offense but he has a quick first move and can guard almost anyone.

 

If you ask me though, I think a better bet would be starting Nelson (depending on how much he's improved from last year). He bring another 6'4 player in to the lineup that can keep teams from keying on Rice down low and with his size and length he brings another defensive threat down low. Nelson and Clark will be the keys in the loss of Nate. Guard play for Holmes will be no problem with or without Nate.
