Pope says a lot of things. We didn't even have a thread on his entire trip to Africa because I didn't think it would generate much interest.

 

Yes the violence is deplorable in places like Paris. It wasn't committed by people that celebrate Christmas, so what does he want from people?

Christmas has been commercialized just like every other holiday that we celebrate. Not sure that's breaking news to anybody.

 

No doubt about that. What I'm reading isn't that commercialization is the issue, it's that these commercial festivities are meaningless because of war/atrocity.

Yeah, I initially missed that.

 

Getslow made good points. The terrorists don't celebrate Christmas, so unless he's telling the victims not to celebrate, I'm not sure what he's trying to accomplish.
