From Cincy Enquirer - Can NewCath repeat?

It's never to early to talk high school football in Greater Cincinnati:

Can NewCath repeat?

This week marks the beginning of Kentucky's two-week "dead period" - when high school athletes aren't allowed on school property for athletic reasons.

Coincidently, it's also the time of year when talk of the upcoming football season begins. Publications in Ohio already have released team and player rankings for the upcoming season. The Cats Pause magazine will release its first Kentucky football rankings a week from today. But in the meantime, here's a look at the top story lines to follow in Northern Kentucky during the 2006 season:

I have not watched Duran Jefferson play a lot of football so remember that.

With that said, IMO Peter Sutton is a better football prospect.

NC: Tough to replace the skill players they lost.

CCH: X, Elder, Watterson, Highlands, NC, and Beechwood have all won state titles in the last few years and they're all on CCH's schedule.

They have NC, Beechwood, X , and Watterson is successive weeks. Yow.

I think NCC will be in the thick of things, they always are but they lost a bunch of big time players, Diehl both of his playmaking Wr's, Smith....those players will be tough to replace.

I was not impressed with Jefferson at QB. He is a very talented athlete and a better DB than a QB. I think he gets picked up by a D-1 team to play either DB much like Engelmon did. Or possible wide receiver.

Hopefully, you are correct. I'm not sure if his speed is good enough for SEC football. I don't think he has the size to be a safety at that level. Heckuva athlete but I'd say mid- to lower-D1 would be the best fit for him.

NCC is always a threat and in the thick of things .

True. Which class has the most variation in teams that reach, say, the Final 8? A ball seems to be the same teams every year.

I would say 2A has the most different teams every year. You never know who is going win that championship.

CovCath's schedule is absolutely brutal. Probably the toughest in the state.

Not to sound to over the top but is their always a CCH player better than Duran in a sport.

Duran will probably be a DB in College. There is not a more overall athletic player in this area than Duran. Most college scouts agree to this point as well.

Jefferson is at QB because he is the best athlete on the team. There are only a couple schools where QB is an option that have talked to him. DB/WR is what has college coaches on campus.

Duran is 6'1 with room to grow, how is that not big enough to play saftey?

Just look what Michigan did for Brandent Englemon. They guy is huge!

Well, I was right on about TJ.

Unless he's bulked up about 30 pounds since the end of b-ball, he's not big enough.

Great athlete, as I said previously, but he's not a BCS conference football player IMO. I hope he proves me wrong and I hope he does it at UK. I'll be leading the cheering section for him.

I doubt he will grow...6'1 is a push also.....his Dad is shorter than he is....not sure about mom......
