June 30, 200620 yr I agree with you. Please don't misunderstand my post. I do not dislike Jr. I was just stating that because of his name he has a great following and much more is expected of him. Kyle Petty is not much of a racer, but sure is very charitable and does allot for children. I will always respect him for that. His name and racing has afforded him the ability to raise lots of money and put on many charitable events for the Victory Junction Camp. Yes....I totally admire Kyle Petty for putting his name to good use. I know that Junior's name has certainly afforded him a large amount of fans, but it has also afforded him an even larger amount of scrutiny and criticism from the NASCAR nation. I get frustrated with people that think that Junior's success and popularity are not hard-earned or well-deserved, just because of who he is. I encourage those people to read up and learn about Junior's past and his path to the Nextel Cup. It's very similar to any other driver.
July 1, 200620 yr If his name was Dale Johnson Jr. He wouldn't have nowhere near as many fans as he does. Even SR. admitted that he used his daddys name to open some doors that had been slammed in his face originally, so did Dale Jarrett, Davey Allison, and even Richard Petty. How bad would have been for all of us race fans if all the names ive just mentioned hadnt had the names to get them in the sport. JR isnt his dad but nobody(not even Gordon) ever will be and Im sure JR would be the first to say that. I was a SR fan and after he died I didnt root for JR automatically but after seeing how JR handled himself after 2/17/01 I realized hes not just the "young punk" I thought he was. So I didnt go blindly to the 8 camp he earned my allegience just like his daddy did. Do I think hes the best out there? no but I think hes in the top 3 or 4. As far as untapped potential I think we havent seen the half of how good he could be because of the bad reality show that is his race team. Ill say this if he and Jimmie Johnson were to switch teams JR would have a championship or 2 in his trophy case by now. Yes he is overhyped, but what would any of the rest of us do? give back the millions of dollars that these companies are throwing at Jr in fear of being overhyped? No wed all take the money and smile for the camera just like he is doing. As far as numbers go JR has more wins at this point in his career than SR did. Im not saying Jr is better than Big E but I am saying he still got alot of years left to prove himself.
July 1, 200620 yr IMO after the death of Dale Sr. Junior realized he was going to have to grow up real fast and I believe he did just that. Last season showed that he can have ups and downs. The media ofcourse jumped all over this and was quick to say, will junior ever be like his father? Now that he is in contention this season, the media is quick to hype him up. The medias perspective changes so often that it makes people think of drivers in a different way. Dale Jr. is not overrated, he has plenty of years left in him.
July 1, 200620 yr Overrated because people expected too much too soon. Once his career is over, he won't be considered overrated.

July 2, 200620 yr IMO I think the media wants JR to run bad and not win because its a bigger story if he loses. If youll ever notice when Jr wins its not as big a deal in the medias eyes as when he loses.
July 3, 200620 yr IMO I think the media wants JR to run bad and not win because its a bigger story if he loses. If youll ever notice when Jr wins its not as big a deal in the medias eyes as when he loses. In the end though, that is the way the media is about any popular driver.
September 25, 200620 yr I'm a Jr. fan just because of who his father was. Junior is not the best driver on the circuit but he can drive, one of his main problems is DEI, they're just not as strong as the other teams (RCR, Rousch) they're missing the technology or know how, or something because the DEI cars are usually lacking in horspower. They did have the superspeedways figured out, but the competition has caught up with them now.
October 6, 200620 yr If his name was Dale Johnson Jr. He wouldn't have nowhere near as many fans as he does. I know Dale Johnson Jr. and he can't drive the turnip wagon without falling off. Way over-rated!!

When JR wins its nothing but pure and natural driving talent. DEI is a joke of a race team. If SR were here today and saw what he worked so hard to build had become hed puke and I honestly wish JR would leave and go to RCR or even Gibbs.

If SR were here today and saw what he worked so hard to build had become hed puke and I honestly wish JR would leave and go to RCR or even Gibbs. It would be nice if DEI could improve as a team, but if not I'd hate to see Jr. drive for anyone but RCR.
October 10, 200620 yr He is a good racer, but he is not a great racer. You can't compare him to Jeff Gordon who has 4 titles, or Tony Stewart who has won a couple of titles. He is a top 10 driver but not an Elite driver, and he doesn't even have Kenesth stature yet. I'm going to the race Sat. night in Charlotte, and he'll probably run well but he still is a little behind ole number 48, and a little ahead of the Biff. I'm a Hendricks guy and I'm bias but Jr. is a megastar for the sport, but he's just not a megastar on the track again he is a good racer but he is not an Elite! I'm glad Nascar has him, it gives me someone to root against!!!

You cant compare JR. to any of these drivers on here cause they all drive for race teams that know theyre hind-ends from holes in the ground and JR doesnt. Like I said before if JR and JJ switched rides JR would have 2 cups in his trophy case right now. My point is to put JR in equiptment and on teams as potent as the rest of those guys and then see what happens.
