Million Student March

Was just about to post that link!

Basically Tax Rates are Much Much higher in those countries and enrollment a most is much lower than the US as a % of students enrolled in post secondary education. College acceptance is also more competitive and it is harder to get into college as opposed to trade or tech schools. If Euro model (like in Germany for example) was here we would be paying 20% to 50% more in taxes than we are currently paying and roughly 1 third of college students would not be in college.

1. In countries where college is free , it isn't college for everyone. They have stricter enrollment .

2. Taxes would go up and not go up a little. They would go up for a lot of people not just the 1%.

3. The costs at these colleges don't have hyper inflation.

4. Outside of Germany most of these European countries who offer these social programs , they are all going bankrupt. That is why the EU is imploding. Germany is the only thing keeping it afloat.

5. The problem in America isn't the need for free college it's a need to cut off this hyper inflation of cost. They way to do that is quit creating this artifical market with student loans. I'm not saying eliminate them. But there needs to be some restrictions. The student loan industry is just like the housing market of the late 90's and early 2000's. Everyone gets one just sign a piece of paper.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it.

I am not just talking about this thread and college but it always amazes me when people say something is free (like European college tuition). Nothing is free people! When someone says free, it just means that someone else is paying for it. not you. As LB so eloquently pointed out, most of Europe is bankrupt because of so much "free stuff"... we are on our way here in the US unfortunately.

This is the ULTIMATE "drop the mic."

Beautiful. You want free college and don't want to work full time during school. Join the military. It would help some of these crazies gain some world perspective.

To add to that. I can't tell you how many college students take on the debt because it's easy. But also with the thought and often times outside reinforcement from others that it will help them build up a credit history. Not realizing that if they take too much it can impact their credit history in on form or another for decades.

Curious how much of the average university's budget goes to paying tenured professors that don't teach their bloated salaries, free tuition to foreign students to promote diversity, unrealistic & unsustainable pensions, etc.?
