November 12, 201510 yr MIDDLETOWN -- A Shenandoah High School student took his own life in a school locker room Wednesday morning. Henry County Sheriff Ric McCorkle confirmed the 17-year-old boy had died as a result of hanging. An investigation is continuing, he said. The suicide took place while students, including those from Shenandoah middle and elementary schools, were attending a Veterans Day assembly at the high school. The student's body was discovered by a staff member in a locker room at the middle school, which is adjacent to the high school. As a result of the tragedy, Shenandoah students were sent home at mid-day, the sheriff said. As sad as this is I am thankful that this student did not chose to harm others and I wish that this never happened in the first place.
