If this was last years Desales team or even the year before I would not give Monroe a chance. But according to your stats and films I would give this a 50/50 shot at Tompkinsville. Its tough to travel here and dominate a team that has nothing to lose. Desales is the heavy favorite and is the two time defending state champion, so I would say the pressure is all on them. We are definately not thinking about CAL next week and Mayfeild the next. We are focused on an upset. one game at a time. And I agree with over the top fans...sometimes they can rub people the wrong way! Especially people that truly believe in their teams!!!!!!

It seems the pressure of this game falls in the lap of Desales. Monroe is not expected to win against the Juggernaut that Is Drsales. This class of players is 19 seniors strong. Last year was a huge injury year and everyone but one is healthy this year. We lost OL Justin Coffelt to a knee. Most of these young men have started since they were sophomores. Are they super studs? No. Are they talented? Very. We have 9 players voted to sky conference them. I would say that other small schools in the south see the talent here. But the question at hand about nothing to lose...Monroe does not have the heavy burden of being put out by a lot lower seed. If they win its an upset to mass proportion. They knocked off the two time defending champions!!!! Then they get payback to Cal for eighth grade loss at state finals by one touchdown.

Oh I wish I could my friend!!!!! My crystal ball is very fuzzy on this turnout. I am just voicing my super fan opinion. I can say that there young men have a hunger in their eyes this week that I have not seen this year. They are getting fired up and I do believe they will bring their A game to Desales. I am predicting a great game. Win or lose.

I am that FAN!!! I only hope that Desales sees the Monroe we all know exists. Confidence and optimism is a downfall my wife says I am full of...along with some slight expletives. I believe in this team. I believe in these coaches. I believe in this program. And I truly believe in this community that loves Friday night football!!!! It will not be an easy round two for the brothers from the North!!!!! But I do hope for safe travels and good sportsmanship. I want to see your best as well as ours. If we fall short then it is just that. But at least we went down with no regrets. I am pretty sure we will be hosting CAL next Friday though!!!!!!

I have to be honest...I love that post! There is nothing wrong with being a believer in your team, your fans and your program. We are the same way. It sounds like it will be loud on both sides, with two good football teams taking the field - exactly what Friday nights are supposed to be about!

You sound like an old Drill Instructor of mine who was in a Viet Nam. He walked uphill to school both ways, ate nails for breakfast and didn't need luxeries like helmets. Good luck Friday!

 

I don't like to brag about the Colts or make bold predictions, but I will say that I LOVE their approach to game day preparation. If you think it sounds like a "drill instructor" approach, that's because it is. Pre-game Mass and pre-game meal start at EXACTLY the same time every week. The pre-game meal is eaten in total silence. The players walk to the field for warm-ups two-by-two, in total silence. Their enthusiasm is to be saved for game time. They will not use a locker room at halftime, no matter how cold it gets. None of these things win or lose games by themselves, but collectively it is a good approach to getting a large group of teenagers focused for the task at hand.

I almost wish CAL wasn't playing Friday night so that I could go see this game. The thread and posts have got me excited for game time!! Not to disrespect anyone but Desales is ultra talented and have players that are legit in any class, as I am sure Monroe is also. Got to cheer for our district teams...go Colts!

DeSales better not go to T-ville expecting these country boys to roll over.

 

I assure you the guys from DeSales are no "City Slickers". You have young men playing for the Colts that know how to work on a farm. This is a very Blue Collar bunch - well rounded. Moving forward, I seriously doubt they will expect anyone to roll over. Not when you walk around with a huge target on you back as the 2 time defending champs.

 

I'll take the Colts 28-7 and look forward to the big rematch next week.

I just watched film on you guys and you guys are good. Your one corner is very good and that 4-4 will make it very hard to run on.

We have really good size on the DL. Both tackles are 6-2 256 and 6-6 325. One defensive end is 6-0 and has won the weightlifting competition two years in a row for his class and the class above him. He is also a 1st team all sky conference player. The other end is 6-7. Our middle linebacker is #4 Whitlock. He is 6-0 215 and is also 1st team all sky conference player. He will rearrange your ear pads. He is also just a junior. We have one corner that runs a 4-4 with tremendous closing speed. We have rotating other corners between a junior running back #8 and sophomore running back #7. They both are very grounded and talented players.

I Love to see schools and players do this. It is a comrodery that they will carry with them through life. My hats off to your program for implementing this. Monroe has a Falcon walk. The boys warm up at the old high school field where us grown ups played many years ago and are led to the field by the band, cheerleaders, and community! Side by side to enter the field through the 15' tall MC helmet. Once your thought the helmet all else in the world does not exist! I am so looking forward to this game I can barely focus at work. My wife is going to fire me if I don't get anything done this week!

Desales is a good team and should win even easily but I know one thing. Monroe has a pride when it comes to playoffs and the fact that Desales has to travel to Tompkinsville will help keep Montoe a lot closer than they may think. In the end Desales should win but it will not surprise me one bit if Monroe walks out with then win at Tompkinsville.

There's only one hotel in T-ville and it only has a limited number of rooms unfortunately. Tompkinsville is a small community with a city population of around 3,000.

 

If you are looking try Glasgow it's 30 miles away and has a few more hotel options.

 

If you get there early enough try the Monroe county BBQ the shoulder is really good.
