Cooper Regional Runner-up question

Featured Replies

I'm curious, with all the dissension going on this past year with Cooper Volleyball, were they Regional Runner-up because of or in spite of the head coach and her handling of the team?

The fact that Cooper was Regional Runner-up, does this mean coach will keep the job or will the parents keep beating on the A.D.'s door?

Geez...not this again....

How can anyone that posts on this board possibly know what the reality was at Cooper this year? Disgruntled parents are the worst evaluators of coaches. I am pretty sure the AD is charged with evaluation of his staff and I am sure Cooper's AD is more than qualified. Cooper had a great season and if they were in any region but 9, 6 or 7 they would be going to State this weekend.

Just let it goooooo.....

lol....let it go? If everyone let it gooooo.... there would be no bluegrasspreps.

I did not evaluate a coach OR am I disgruntled parent. I only asked a couple of questions. I'm sorry, but something about this site makes me think that is what it is all about.

Yes, Cooper had a great season, BUTTT, xyz, you should do your homework....you say Cooper would be going to state in "any region but 9, 6, or 7", but they also got their clocks cleaned by teams in the 8th, 10th , and 11th(3 different teams from this region). What seems to be let goooooo, is any basis in facts....

Yup that's my bad. I didn't even look at their schedule until now. Thanks for the correction.

I just get frustrated with the bashing of coaches. You want to question their line ups - fine. You want to question their adjustments - fine. Question why they didn't call a TO - sure. But to get on a public message board and make baseless and harmful accusations because "someone you work with has a daughter on the team" or you "heard from someone whose daughter quit the program". I just think that is wrong.

I will stand by my statement that the AD can and should assess his staff and the direction of the program. I just hate coach bashing when it is all based on gossip and people make these accusations while hiding behind screen names. Coaches are almost to a fault good people who work for low pay and put up with a lot of BS. When there are issues, I liken it to a failing marriage, fault on both sides. On this board though we only hear one side because no coach is going to get on here and defend themselves and they shouldn't have to. Parents shouldn't run programs, AD's should.

This team was Regional Runner-Up because they played a team that was just better then them, however, this team is loaded with talent and should be the top team in the 9th next year.

Agree 100%. Maybe the better question should be did Coopers coaching staff get the best from the talent they had? Are they teaching fundamentals and developing player skills to help them reach their full potential?

But the most important question any parent ask of themselves when evaluating a coach: Are they helping my child to learn and grow as a person; to understand responsibility, accountability, team work and work ethic? Are they helping them to understand to work through adversity, challenge themselves to achieve more and be respectful both in success and defeat?

Cooper had a terrific season. At 24-12 they had some tough loses, but they also had some big wins and I think the program has a bright future. Best of luck to the Lady Jags.

Slow down....that's a gigantic gap to fill to be top team I n Region 9. Two matches this season with NDA weren't all that competitive. Volleyball will always be a pass first sport and unless they have two great options that weren't on the roster this year, their primary on the court weaknesses remain the same.

No one in region 9 gave NDA much competition this year. Next year could be the year that we see NDA get knocked down a bit. Not sure it will be Cooper that does it, but will fun to see what happens!!

Pandas will reload. New faces, same pride, same results.

NDA will be just fine. It's what I was getting at in the Seniors thread. They have more talent than anyone else in Region 9 top to bottom. It may not be as dominant but there is a tremendous gap that other programs need to overcome.

This is about perspective. Compare Cooper to an average 9th team and they look above average. But now they're being compared to NDA. There's really no comparison. NDA plays a national schedule on a national level and has depth at key positions. I'll take NDA, St. Henry, and even Ryle ahead of Cooper next season.

Coopers' big wins? What were they? They lost to the 10th Region Champ Scott twice, and the 10th is really weak in volleyball. Lost to NDA, Beechwood, St. Henry - plus Conner and Boone Co - 2 teams a supposed top team should never lose to. To answer the question, Cooper was regional runner-up because they got a good draw. O Cath finished 2nd in State - are they even the 15th best team in the State? Luck of the draw.

and please stop going by records in volleyball. Assumption won State and finished 34-7. It's all about the schedule you play. And Cooper has a weak one.

Volleyball is won and lost in the back row. If you can't aggressively serve, have an error-free serve-receive, and make passes that are "3's" you are going nowhere, no matter who is in the front row.

You can't evaluate volleyball teams by their best talent. It's about the weakest position on the floor. Is your weakest position better than their weakest. Because that's how good coaches game plan. Good teams will attack your weakest point, and that weakest point will cost you games. If you really want to compare teams, look at their 6th, 7th, and 8th player - because that's who's going to win it or lose it. Considering girls who couldn't make NDA's roster start for other schools, I'll stick with their depth.

I never claimed to be a volleyball expert, and I don't see has much as you obviously do. However, what I saw on the few occasions I have seen Cooper and it being a very young team, I think they can be reach the top next year. Will that happen???????

Maybe I should just stick with softball. :lol2:

NDA next season will not be the shadow of this season... Sorry if that offends people but its true. NKY has only produced one Morgan Hentz and she is a senior this year. Next year NDA will be good, but good is a far cry from where they are now.

Cooper will be very talented, probably the most talented overall. Ryle will have a say in things and hopefully people figured out that St. H has several returning studs too. Beechwood should improve. Conner will be ok and though they lose a few they should be able to reload those pieces. Scott will drop off without Jessica Tapp, Simon will drop farther, Boone also... Campbell Co will be about the same. Walton should be about the same if not better. Grant will drop alot due to the huge senior class. Dixie will be below the top tier, Villa will drop off considerably, I'm not sure about Holy Cross.

In 2013, NDA finished 2nd in the State and then lost 7 Seniors, some who were 1st team All-State, Region 9 POY, and went on to play at little schools like Penn State, LSU, Xavier. The very next year, with bench and JV players no one had heard of, and with a coaching change on top of it, NDA finished 2nd in the state again. I wouldn't bet against them.

I sense "NDA fatigue" on this message board, like people are tired of them dominating the region, where people will post anything about any other team just hoping it will come true. I'm sure people are tired of Assumption winning State every year too - but it's not going to change anytime soon. I'm sure many of you out there have ABNDA syndrome. anyone but nda.
