In 2013, NDA finished 2nd in the State and then lost 7 Seniors, some who were 1st team All-State, Region 9 POY, and went on to play at little schools like Penn State, LSU, Xavier. The very next year, with bench and JV players no one had heard of, and with a coaching change on top of it, NDA finished 2nd in the state again. I wouldn't bet against them.

 

I sense "NDA fatigue" on this message board, like people are tired of them dominating the region, where people will post anything about any other team just hoping it will come true. I'm sure people are tired of Assumption winning State every year too - but it's not going to change anytime soon. I'm sure many of you out there have ABNDA syndrome. anyone but nda.

 

You left one thing out.... after 2013's seniors left Morgan returned in 2014. You don't have another Morgan in the wings.

 

Also, I don't think I said they'd suck. I'm not that stupid. lol Just that the gap isn't as wide as it once was. We shall see. Conventional wisdom says bet on the Panda's, but we'd be doing a disservice to the other programs if you don't recognize them as well. Beechwood will present a serious challenge to NDA in their district next year, and so will several others in the region. Can't wait to see it all shake out.

 

BTW - Who are the D1 players coming up to match the 2013 or 2015 class? Just curious.

These three sophomores would have started and made every all conference all tourney coach's assoc etc teams out there. If you choose to go to NDA, sometimes you have to wait your turn.

In my opinion we didn't lose much because of the drama created by the players and families in that class. And the "star" players were very much overrated.

 

Ogle to LSU- got practically no playing time as a frosh. Got very little playing time as a soph and quit mid season. Rumored to be going to D3 Thomas More which is a better fit for her skills.

 

Heidi Thelen plays little to none at PSU. She was more the level of Big East, ACC not Big Ten.

 

Meredith Klare at Xavier was not even on scholarship her first year. She was an invited walk on. Klare is starting Libero this year after not playing one point as a freshman. She starts this year due to the transfer of the Libero that was recruited in her class who went to Auburn. Coaching change resulted in the transfer and too late to recruit anyone else.

The class of 2012 had 6/7 seniors almost all played in college (Schmahl (Murray) Jones (Ohio U), Hartman (UNCE), Schellhaus (Georgetown?), Glassmeyer (Wright State), Read (Georgetown) .... Sorry if I forgot someone) and NDA was just fine the next four years.

Beechwood will present a serious challenge to NDA in their district next year, and so will several others in the region.

 

here we go again...ABNDA, right? instead of asking who the next great crop of NDA D1 players will be, show us the list of D1 players Beechwood has that is going to knock NDA out of Districts next year

 

And don't get hung up on D1 labels. A lot of girls can play D1 if they want but they choose not to - doesn't mean they don't have the talent. It's a choice. Many high DII and DIII schools as good or better than low D1.

Now that was kinda harsh..... and though technically right on your timeline a little clarification needs to be added. First, not many kids play as Freshman or Sophomores at major D1 Programs such as Penn State, and just to be on the team for two years, on scholarship, to me says something. Two, Libero's paying for one or two years is common across Division 1. It's also common for outsides and middles and setters to be asked to pay for one of their years too. Not everyone gets four full years paid for. How do you think they keep their rosters so large?

Lastly, Ellie coming home is not due to her skill level or playing time, and I expect to see her playing D1 again closer to home. Why she left LSU is her business and I won't air it here.

There is a lot of misinformation in your post but I don't really care enough about it to make corrections

 

My point in sharing the 2012 class is that what we lost in 2012 was as significant as what we lost in 2014 since the "stars" were overrated and if they had gone to schools they were suited for they would have been on par with the schools of the 2012 class.

 

Maybe it's too complicated to understand for people not intimately involved at NDA.

Who replaces Morgan Hentz? That's the funniest thing I have read in here in a long time. No one replaces her. She is irreplaceable and one of a kind. NDA has not seen the likes of her ever and has managed to do ok. Morgan will be missed but others can compete at a high enough level to still win Region 9.

Checked Penn State site. Heidi has played in 20 of 25 matches and started 13. Not bad for the top program in the country.

That may be true, but you said they will challenge NDA in Districts. Is there a stockpile of D1 talent at Beechwood we don't know about? Using the amount of Seniors a team has is a joke. NDA only had 2 last year - and finished 2nd in the state. Highlands had 7 Seniors this year and finished below .500

 

I realize many people have a hard time grasping the definition of what a good volleyball team looks like. Since Kentucky doesn't have classes, and doesn't limit the number of club players per HS team, the bar to be a good team is set really high. Here's a handy guide to use when comparing teams:

 

1. how many players play high-end club volleyball at the OPEN level at national tournaments?

2. could the 6th, 7th, and 8th best players on the team start and be all-conference at another school?

3. how many times a year does the team play Mercy, Assumption, and Sacred Heart?

According to ND's roster they also have 4 juniors plus the very good 3 Sophomores and the other Sophomores who were on JV. People think ND is going to be bad because they lose Morgan. However, ND has been good for a very long time without Morgan.
