Ask around Boyle County and see if the kids went to camp this year. If they say yes then the scrimmaged. Trust me Chuck Smith does it as well. Sorry to disappoint.

 

They go to camp every year. Jabez. Been going to camp for years and years. They went when Larry French was here too. This is not new information for anyone in these parts.

Again, I never claimed to know about football. All I know is that of all the teams mentioned on here that have scrimmaged this year not a single one will win a state championship this season. Not a single one. Some vast advantage......

 

Like I said, I don't know how much of an advantage it is, but some of these teams are scrimmaging every evening at camp - sometimes in a grid format against two or more other teams. I can understand the idea that those extra reps are an advantage, and I also can see the argument that it doesn't do anything but beat your kids up... It probably depends on the program/team/roster/format.

I think the rule used to be that you could do drills together, but now full team scrimmaging. That may have been changed after the flap over a few teams before last season. I am honestly not sure.

 

I really can't answer you about whether or not it is an advantage - I suppose it is a matter of your coaching philosophy. You could make the argument that live reps against an opponent are superior to drills, but you could also make the argument that it just gets you beat up.

 

It just seems like it would be better for everyone to play by the same set of rules, one way or another. I also don't know if schools have to report camps to KHSAA or not.

I think the greatest advantage to come from multiple scrimmages would be in position development. It could also help coaches decide on a starter in a particular position they may have had 2 or more good candidates for.

Just to throw this out there, but I'm coming from a different state with different rules. We do several contact camps a summer plus several 7v7. We benefit so much from this that I couldn't imagine not doing the contact camps and the 7v7 to a lesser extent. You can tell the schools that don't do as much as the others.
