What can you tell us about this game? I saw where the freshman QB Will Adkins made his 1st JV start. How did he look? He is a huge kid. Someone told me he goes about 6'4, 250 lbs, and has some pretty good wheels on him. I had to question if he's really an Adkins if he has good wheels, but his dad and his uncle were slower than molasses. :lol2::lol2: But that report came from one of his former teammates who plays for Russell now.

I don't know about 250. Spread it around well. Offensive line blew open hole after hole. Tackett and Coburn ran all over their defense. Greenup's qb had some issues with picks. His line had trouble with our blitzing linebackers. Adkins looks to be an in the pocket qb. Got outside a couple time and made some good throws with presser. Adkins has nothing on Ratliff running the ball. Heaberlin had a great td run. Shook off a couple of tackles for a 40 yard score. Kruger had some monstrous sacks late in the game. He might have his dad and uncle's speed, not sure. :)

Sounds like Ashland has some good talent coming up thru the system.

Is he better than the other freshman QB?

I've seen them both play. They both have their own skill sets, Ratliff is a better runner, Adkins is better passer.

I have not seen Adkins play, but I like for my qb to be able to complete passes. Let the backs handle running duties.

Hard to say that. He is taller, has a strong arm. Can take a hit in the pocket and still deliver and he can roll out either direction. He is excellent running the option. He has good fundamentals. On the other hand, Ratliff is older and probably physically more mature. Ratliff has the edge in speed and is an outstanding runner. It's going to be fun to watch.

Welcome to Bluegrasspreps, Eightdigits.

Too bad they can't redshirt. :lol2:

I don't know either kid but I'm going to take Ratliff because he has a great last name. :-)

Ugh, you just gave me a flashback of Towles, which has nothing to do with this thread. But when I here the word redshirt, it always reminds me due to that, I will have to endure another year of watching Towles play qb.

Feel for the other kid though if he has been QB his whole life of the team and this kid swoops in this year and takes his spot

Especially if he is the better passer. To be honest I know nothing about the kid, but I'll be doing some research. A 6'4 200+ pound pocket passer at the high school level screams potential.

Well, let me just say in an overtly biased and extreamly proud way, Will Adkins is my nephew and the kid really is amazing. I'd have to ask his dad (my brother and Lawence County teacher, Ben) but I don't think he's 250.

I'm happy to say that he has spent two summers down here near me at the Manning Passing Academy. You will not find a better, more fundamentally-sound, natural pocket QB Freshman anywhere. He's calm, organized, checks down and has a sling of an arm. It helps that he has a couple of big time receivers. In my mind (and of course I'm biased) with the way Ratlif runs (speed) and Canes can catch (KY high jump champ) and Will throws (all three freshman)... Ashland has a tremendous multi-threat offense coming in a year or two.
