Region 1 Cats Pause Rankings

Featured Replies

Could someone post the Region 1 rankings, team and players?

Thanks ahead of time!!!

No one must have the Region 1 rankings???

1. Paducah Tilghman

2. Murray

I think graves was third and Carlisle fourth. James Boone was ranked the number one player followed by two Tilghman players. JJ Reed was 5th I think. I've got the book but I don't have it with me.

Some thought when the McCracken schools consolidated to create the new and large enrollment school that they would be the force to reckon with in most years in the 1st, but Paducah Tilghman has 'been there and done that' many times in their history, and that's not going to change.

The best and worse thing that happen to McCracken was making it to State tournament in their 1st year.

How does Carlisle have 2 in the top 10 and get ranked behind Graves? Don't get me wrong, I think Graves is better but also think Graves should of had at least 2 in the top 10. But it isn't where you start, it's where you finish.

You are right there, hard to live up to the expectations after that.

Yes it is. Story book season but last year they struggled. They have some good young talent in the sophomore group.

lovin_war, I noticed that for the second straight year that you’re the first one to be critical of my rankings. You certainly have the right to do that, and my observations are never above second-guessing. However, let me suggest that you actually buy the yearbook and read the team capsules. You say that Graves should have at least 2 players in the top 10. Vogt is a given. Who are the others? I think Ryan Mathis is going to be a star in the region, and I think Christian Gough is going to be a force in the paint this season. And I point these things out in the team capsules. In fact, the reason I rank Graves #3 is because of their frontline and the matchup problems they will give other teams in the region. Now, could Gough and Mathis be considered top 10 players in the region by the end of the season? Absolutely. I think they’re outstanding players. But, based on the numbers and performances last season of those that are in the top 10, who would you bump out to make room? If you can make a compelling argument for it, I’ll be glad to listen.

The 1st Region is going to be tough this year. The big schools are going to be good. I wouldn't count out the comets this year. Going to be an interesting season.

Couple of things. It is a team sport. An NBA team could have 2 all stars but be ranked below a team with one.

As far as the player rankings. I think it is pretty good. Going into the season Vogt is the only top ten player that the Eagles have.

Thanks Jeff for the rankings and Chris for posting them. I think the rankings are a good starting point for the season. I sure everyone thinks that players from their own team should have more but there is only room for 10 in the top 10.

People really don't know how difficult it is to do a top 10 ranking for players, especially at the beginning of the year. It is very hard to see how everyone has improved over the summer.

Good point. Last summer I had more than one coach in the region tell me that Tilghman's Devon Hart was going to have a breakout season last year, and they were right. I saw him play probably 8 times last year and I love the kid's game. He was my #10 pick in last year's rankings, and as the year went on I thought I should have ranked him higher. But when I looked back, I'm not sure who I would have switched him with, based on the previous season's performance of numbers 1 through 9. I dare say that every year in almost every region a kid has a breakout type season and by the end of the year they are a top 10 player, even though they may not have made any preseason top 10 rankings.
