October 18, 201510 yr I will admit I called for Jacoby's head, and yet the same problems still exist with the Reds. Its the players not the coach, and the players are here because of bad ownership.

Its the players not the coach, and the players are here because of bad ownership. It’s their approach at the plate. How does this happen? You can blame the players, for sure, but it still filters down from the General Manager, Field Manager and his coaching staff not holding guys accountable. I don’t care if your hitting coach is Babe Ruth or Roberto Clemente, if you can’t get better plate philosophy or change it some, then you are not doing your job. And if you are not doing the job, you’re gone. In Baker’s case, if he didn’t want to fire Jacoby then he should have had Jacoby sit on guys and made the players change things. If Baker said he didn’t want to fire Jacoby because the players just didn’t listen to him, that’s on Baker and it should have cost him his job. That’s my two cents.

October 19, 201510 yr You are what you bring into the organization. While I'm far from a Sabremetrics fanatic, the Reds have been one of the slowest in the game to grasp the value of analytics. That's in spite of the fact they have THE MLB example signed for a quarter billion dollars. The sad part is if they would only adjust the philosophy in that one area, they'd be a regular at the top of the sport. Pitching and defense are a fantastic start. Add not making outs over some power and 150 Ks and this whole thing looks a lot different...
