This was his Sophomore year when the record was set. So two years ago, semantics I know.

The young man is certainly impressive. Whatever school he lands at is getting a diamond in the rough. I remember some JC fans mentioned that he needs to work on his mechanics a bit to get his kicks off quicker, but that seems to be his only fault.

 

That said, I hope he gets plenty of opportunities to work on his punting game October, 23rd.

Aaron Pettery from Raceland had a great leg, as did a mid from Trinity or St X (i believe be played for the packers at some point?) Pettery went to OSU and though he was good, Idk if he has the leg that Pack does. If the kid doesnt go D1, something is bad wrong.

It is impressive. He punted from 5 deep in his end zone to the opposing 38. That is 67 yards in the air (the ball was snapped from the 10 so officially it was 52 in the air).

 

By the time his foot makes contact with the ball, he's right on the goal line. His teammates down it at the 1, meaning he kicked it the length of the field. You literally can't ask for more from your punter. Best special teams weapon in the state, IMO.

 

As someone who never saw Pettrey in high school, how does Pack compare to him at his age?

Kid can boot it. Didn't he kick a field goal off of his friends face one day?

 

 

I can't even imagine the Greenup a County thought after that punt. They'd be expecting good field position after forcing a punt from JCs end zone and then he flips it like that

Pettrey was good, really good. I had more opportunities to see him than I have Pack, so I can't give a true comparison. But Pettrey was slightly more accurate and had great mechanics, IMO. Pack however has a stronger leg and is comparably accurate. Just needs to work on his mechanics a bit.

They are very similar, as place kickers, with regard to strength. Pettrey was very accurate. Although Pettrey did punt in high school, and was a good high school punter, he was no where near as good of a punter as Pack. Pettrey often split the uprights on kick off and was very technically sound. He looked like an athlete running toward the ball and would glide though his kicks. Nothing against Pack, he is a great kicker, but he seems to be more strength then finesse. As a Punter, Pack wins. As a place kicker, although they have different methods, I think it is a draw, both were great high school kickers.

 

Again, nothing against Pack, he is a great kicker, but Pettrey also had lower level D1 offers as a QB and WR and was very athletic. Pettrey also still holds the state record for completion percentage for a season. 71% I think.

 

And, to the topic of scholarships, Pettrey did have a D1 scholarship to kick, but he was grey shirted the first year, then red shirted the second year, then went on the roster.

If someone dont get Pack on their roster they are missing out. I have seen him a ton and if you go on his twitter you can watch him kick 50 yarders off peoples heads. Critique's are spot on, he needs to get a bit faster with his mechanics, but nothing a major college program cant fix easy. What you cant teach is the power in his legs.

 

On a side note, Tyler also plays basketball and soccer. In basketball, although he looks like a DE, he can dunk with two hands easily. Just ask Scott County's big man this summer - Tyler put a nasty two hander down on him at the KBA state tournament. Point - he is surprisingly athletic and stands 6'5'' (240lbs)
