Johnson Central coach Jim Matney won’t shy away from the fact that he will do everything in his power to allow his players to etch their names in the record book.

 

J.J. Jude’s done it three times.

 

Now, Tyler Pack’s done it twice.

 

Pack’s booming 89-yard punt cleared previous record-holder Boone County’s Chris Dittus by 5 yards on Friday night at Greenup County, the same site on which Pack booted a state-best 60-yard field goal on Oct. 11, 2013.

 

When it comes to KHSAA records, Johnson Central is among the most frequent schools seen at the top of lists. Jude owns these marks: career rushing yards (8,633), rushing yards in a single game (584) and average rushing yards per game in a season (255.1).

 

Pack’s jack fell just 8 yards short of the national record held by Gary Bolin (McCamey, Texas, 1969). The 6-foot-4 senior did nothing but increase his chances of kicking at a Division I level, if he so chooses, next season.

BIG leg. I know kickers are often an after thought but some D1 school needs to get on this kid. I'd like to get him to WKU but UK or U of L would be nice also.

Nice duel kicker with a State Record in FG distance and Punt distance. Someone has to pick him up.

89 yards is impressive. I'm just curious how many yards in the air did it fly? What kind of bounce did it get? I'm not taking away anything from the young man at all. It was just a conversation I was having at the job site. Just curious.

It was reported, that the punt bounced once and was downed. I don't know the yardage, but I would imagine it was 75-80 in the air given the one bounce statement.

Found it. It rolled a while, but he kicked it from his end zone (Snapped from his 10) and it looks to hit at the Greenup 38 and rolled to the one.

Holy CRAP!!! I don't care if it did bounce. That was a monstrous kick. I was watching a WVU game a few years ago (why, I don't know. I despise the ones from Morgan Hole) when their punter had like a 90 yard punt.

It is impressive. He punted from 5 deep in his end zone to the opposing 38. That is 67 yards in the air (the ball was snapped from the 10 so officially it was 52 in the air).
