Belfry 27 Lawrence County 23

Featured Replies

Final per the update thread.

I have been following Belfry football for 30+ years and this was the ugliest performance I have ever been a part of.

Belfry fumbles the ball 9 times and loses 7 of them. Yes 7 lost fumbles with 5 of which coming deep in their own territory. The Pirate Defense somehow manages to get just enough stops and after LC rallied from a 21-10 4th Quarter deficit a late TD run by X Willis sends Belfry to victory.

Just a disgustingly bad performance.

Hangover.

Hangover.

I dont think so... just the same things we have been seeing for weeks just a full game of it instead of 2 quarters.

Belfry gained 434 yards, had to backs over 100 yards, and still should have lost this one.

The Fumbles are only a part of the equation..Pirates consistently hurt themselves with unforced penalties and missed assignments. This Belfry team is NOT a Title Contender right now.

Is this a wake up call for Belfry? Nonetheless, great effort by LC after they gave one away last week.

Any word on the Richardson kids injury (LC player). Hope everything is OK as I heard they had to bring in an ambulance. Prayers for that young man.

Not sure... last week should have been a wakeup call and they regressed further.

LC also played bad and dint help themselves. Numerous penalties and they lost their cool. With as many times as LC was set up inside the Belfry 30 this game shouldn't have been close.

Neither team deserved to win and if either team plays this way in the playoffs it will be an All District 6 Regional FInal.

Same old thing

No compliment intended

Stay East

Are you already trying to lay the foundation for your team's moral victory in October if they fall short of the Finals?

Seriously?

Really sloppy game and tough to watch for both fan bases I'd imagine. For Belfry, tough because of the mistakes/fumbles and for Lawrence tough because they have to feel like they let one slip away, with lots of marbles on the line.

Congrats to Lawrence County, they deserved to win. They played harder and gave a better effort but came up a little short.

Belfry is struggling with execution right now and just no looking very good. I don't think Belfry is mentally tough enough to make a run at a title at this point. Their focus is obviously not sharp and they have no intensity. They have work to do and a lot of that needs to be between the earholes.

Only other time I can remember Belfry fumbling 9 times was in the state championship game in 1986 against Owensboro in a 14-0 loss.

Atl, There are no moral victories, only wins and losses.

All you or I can do is grin and take it, we don't decide outcomes.

If you talk it you have to be ready to take it.

I have not proclaimed our greatness or any boasts of post season dominance.

Best of luck to Belfry rest of the year.

@ATLCat and/or @Watusi, are the next two weeks coming along at just the right time or are the two weakest opponents on the schedule the last thing Belfry needs right now?

So you will not use anything resembling "If _________ was in the East they would have been playing in the Championship?"

By your logic you are saying you will celebrate whoever plays in the Championship and wins their way to Bowling Green as the best..or second best team..because they won just as they should while other teams lost. Is this true or are you in fact trying to lay the groundwork to make excuses why certain teams fell short?

Good question and I don't know

Confidence is needed... and it is easier to find timing and micromanage when the other team is not disrupting your pace.

As the saying goes though, "You can't fix stupid" and the sad part is a lot of Belfry's issues are mental. Lack of focus, a little too much "me" and not "we", and genuinely bad football from an execution and mechanics standpoint.

It's not like Lawrence was blowing the ball carrier up and dislodging the ball... these were strips fighting for extra yards, bad pitches, botched exchanges because the Halfback was reaching, and meshed up mesh points. It wasn't like Belfry was getting penalties for illegal hands to the face or blocks in the back trying to make a play... the penalties were mainly False Starts, and personal fouls after the play.

Botched kickoff returns that you start on your own 1 Yard Line, nearly muffing a punt because two guys both go for the same fair catch, taking a 2nd and Goal from the 1 and turning it into 2nd and Goal from the 11 on back to back False Starts... that's just braindead football.

If there is one silver lining tonight...how Belfry held LC to 10 points off turnovers when LC literally started inside the Belfry 30 five times is quite impressive. Even then, the Defense gave up 150 yards and 14 points on two plays, to a team who isn't exactly the second coming of the Green Bay Packers. You give up 14 points to Central, Boyle, or Caldwell and you lose tonight with how bad the Offense was....
