2A State Meet Recap

Featured Replies

New place, same result.

Paducah Tilghman made it another ho-hum affair with the school's sixth straight boys/girls sweep in 2A.

For the guys, Tilghman won their sixth straight title and 24th overall, which is only two titles behind Male, who has won 26 titles but none since 1998.

Tilghman totaled 99 points, while Highlands was second with 76. West Jessamine (74) was third and Fleming County (60) was fourth.

Like Bardstown in 1A, Tilghman's depth in every event helped them win with only three first place finishes on the day.

Western junior Justin Collins swept the sprints, winning the 100m and 200m dashes, and anchored Western's win in the 400m relay.

Fleming County's Ron Duncan won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m runs but couldn't pull off the sweep as Fleming's 3200m relay finished fourth.

For the gals, Tilghman (159) won their seventh straight 2A title, easily outdistancing Highlands (86.5), Lloyd Memorial (63.5), and Rockcastle County (54).

Tilghman freshman DeAudra Horne won the 200m and 400m and ran a leg on the first place 1600m relay team.

Tilghman's Pam Bell set a new state record in the shot put with a toss of 42-10.5.

Lloyd Memorial's Sondra Nieporte won the 1600m and 3200m run.

Tilghman's girls have won 13 state titles -- the most of any school.

What were his times?

Special congratulations to Run Duncan of Fleming County, who tripled on a hot day in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Ron, it's been a pleasure following your running career for the past five years.:ylsuper:

Yes. Great job and quite an accomplishment.

Western junior Justin Collins swept the sprints, winning the 100m and 200m dashes, and anchored Western's win in the 400m relay.

Matt Maynard from Belfry tied Collins for the fastest preliminary time in the 100 (11.16) and he finished 3rd in the finals (11.51).

Congrats to Matt for a fine effort and for representing the Belfry community. :thumb:
