Murray and OCath share the worst loss... Murray for getting blown out by graves and OCath for losing narrowly to Daviess County

 

 

The one I am struggling with is the most questionable win...

NewCath defeating Campbell County 28-19 and Murray defeating Calloway County 48-21 stand out, but truth be told if you only gave a surface view of Mayfield's 28-14 win over Corbin it ranks right behind them.

Best win=

Tie between the dominations of Mayfield and DeSales respectively over Tilghman and Ballard...slight edge to DeSales

 

Best Loss:

CAL only losing by 7 to Central

The "surface" of the Mayfield/Corbin game was soaking wet and Mayfield out their freak running back and still come out with a two touchdown victory? Not sure how that's a questionable win. I'm guessing the Mayfield dominance over many larger sized schools (many of them ranked) over the years has reset the standard for how many TD's they are supposed to win every game by every year?.:ohbrother:

Best Loss= 2A Mayfield losing to top ten ranked 6A McCracken County in OT. IMHO

Best Loss Owensboro Catholic losing to OHS. OCath had OHS down 14-0. Then a boggus personal foul during OHS's aiding the runner penalty when there were no whistle blown to stop the play until the flags came out. Catholic held them on that 4th down. Penalty was marked off from spot not the line of scrimmage.

The OB Cath loss to Owensboro in a close game isn't a bad loss, however, the loss to Daviess Co is a bad loss, especially after seeing what McCracken Co did to them.

 

I don't think Mayfield, Desales, NCC, Danville or CAL has a bad loss, while all of them with exception to NCC have at least 1 or 2 quality wins. CAL doesn't have a win over a ranked team, but, I'd give them a pass with a win over 6a Eastern.

 

Worst losses are Murray to Graves, OB Cath to Daviess, LCA to Walton Verona.

They beat a 3-3 Corbin team that is ranked #10 in 3A

Heading into the 4th Quarter it was tied at 14

Danville, a team ranked below Mayfield, beat Corbin by 20 and shut them out

 

When You Look Deeper:

Mayfield was playing without a couple key starters including their super star RB

It was a wet track that both teams were playing on

Mayfield didn't exactly bring their A Game and most Corbin fans felt they played pretty darn good.

Corbin tuned the ball over 10 times, 9 fumbles and a int. Corbin is extremely lucky that it was not a running clock. As for Mayfield's win over Corbin, I was not real pleased with only a 14 point win.

Daviess County was missing 4 starters against McCracken including their best offensive player, John Stratton. Don't think it would have changed the outcome but the score would have been more respectable.

 

Murray's loss to Graves County is by far the worst loss of this group. I know they were banged up from what I hear but Graves is very down.

 

Best loss, I would give to Mayfield against McCracken. Toughest schedule so far, New Cath, and best win is probably a toss up between Mayfield and DeSales. I think we get a good read of the top 2A teams this week with Mayfield v. Murray and then when DeSales plays CAL. I think New Cath and Owensboro Catholic will probably fly through their district schedules and won't have any relevant games until playoffs.

I looked up the newspaper report on the game. I thought they had that many turnovers. Of course 4 is till aplenty but the Hounds only had 90 yards. That is getting it done. I met up with some Corbin buddies, actually old roommates and they said they felt Mayfield was a little better than the Ads. For whatever that is worth, but these guys do know their football.

 

The Danville defense held Corbin to 90 total yards, including just 35 rushing yards on 41 carries. The Redhounds fumbled the ball nine times, lost three and Danville intercepted a pass. On the other end, the Admirals did not turn the ball over while picking up 221 yards.

Since I do not know how to pull a post from another thread I will paste this from yesterday. It pertains to these questions

 

I would argue that in theory MF should be #1 but after a closer than usual win over a low top #10 3A team in Corbin I could also argue that DS should be #1. MF has the best loss to McCracken Co. DeSales best win is over Ballard while MF's best win is over PT. PT and Ballard are identical meaning neither win is better than the others using LIT Ratings with both at 102. DS has played just 1 team with a winning record in Fern Creek and lost. MF has played just 1 team with a winning record in McCracken Co and lost in OT. DS has played just 1 team with a even record in 3-3 Ballard who DS beat. MF has played 3 teams with even records and beat all 3, Corbin, Graves Co and PT. DS has played 3 teams that have losing records and beat all three. MF has played 2 teams with a losing record and beat both. MF has played 2 teams with Lit Ratings over 100, beating PT and losing in OT to McCracken Co. DS has also played 2 teams with Lit's over 100 beating Ballard and losing to Fern Creek. The average Lit for DS opponents that they have played so far is 90.10 and DS has a Lit Rating of 112.4. The average Lit for MF opponents that they have played so far is 86.15 and MF has a Lit Rating of 109.1.

 

Both are ranked #1 in various polls

 

So what I take from this is that it is pretty much a deadlock depending upon what color glasses one wears. If this were a election it would drive the pollsters crazy as they would have to say its to close to call. For what it's worth I got MF at #1

 

Are we all overlooking CAL, Danville, OC Murray, and NCC in our infatuation with the 2 big name teams? For DS, the CAL game will tell us next week and for MF the game with Murray will do the same.

 

CAL has a Lit of 108.7 and their opponents avg LIT is 96.30. Their best win is over N Oldham who has a Lit of 93.3.

I'm really curious at this point about the quality of the DeSales wins. Butler is 6-A but just not very good. Ballard is the real head scratcher. They got destroyed by Male, but then Male destroyed Trinity as well. They won by just a TD over Western, but then led most of the game against Manual before losing the lead late in the 4th quarter.

In response to the last two posts... CAL really is looking better and better.

 

As pointed out DeSales 6A wins are losing their luster. I still think Ballard is a good team, but it seems each week they just keep taking "L's"

 

By that same token McCracken County is a mystery team as well. Madisonville looked like a nice win at the time, but now they are a bad football team. Warren Central looked like a good win at the time... but they aren't very good this year either. I am not sure how good McCracken, Ballard, or Butler really are.

 

By contrast, we know how good the two teams are that beat CAL. Simon Kenton is bonafide as a Top 10 overall team in KY. Central is bonafide as a Top 20 overall team in Kentucky.
