I would think it would happen less than it used to. People were initially concerned about their kid's pics being online. Now EVERY kid PUTS their own pictures online so what's the issue ?

The issue is one parent got traction with a chicken you know what school and forced the photos down. Word will spread fast and I guarantee you other parents have had similar concerns but didn't want to be the one to complain but now all they have to do is say so and so school did this blah blah blah...

The matter is between the parent and I. I respect the right of a parent to not have their childrens pictures on my page. The logistics of accommodating the request is difficult but I will figure it out.

Sorry to hear, it's a shame and as Guru mentioned the school should have had the guts to take a different stand.

 

You see cameras everywhere at all events, and if I remember correctly, you can basically take a photo or anyone any anywhere without having the persons permission, and at the moment the photo is taken it is copywrited and the photographers legal property.

 

paNDA does a great job, as does others including Guru and his people and it's a great service for the kids as everyone wants to see photos of themselves participating, and people like paNDA attempt to include everyone so no one is left out. The parents don't have to worry either about having professional type photos and can sit back and enjoy the game.

 

As far as Clyde's question, the school should have taken a different stand.

I am sure they are concerned about more than the face. Not that you were being serious or that paNDA would be that aggressive.

Folks we're getting all over the school and I'm not sure why. If panda does not work for the school he was not "forced" to take them down. It sounds like the school relayed a concern and he did the proper thing and took them down. Now if the school said take them down or no more special access that's a different story but I'm still not sure I would be all that upset with the school.

What if they told the parent to shove it and something were to happen based on a pervert getting interested due to the posted pictures? Would we be screaming that the school took no action when asked? Sure it's a remote possibility but one that tortures some parents.

To specifically answer your question because the school should have told the parent it is a public event and everyone has a right to photo it (unless the school is going to restrict every photographer) and those photographers own the images and have a right to post them as they see fit.

 

In paNDA's case he is being forced because the minute he tells the school no the school will no longer allow him to take photos of any events involving their students and paNDA doesn't have the proper standing (at least I don't believe he does) to force the schools hand.

 

This is a real slippery slope that eventually may lead to one or more media outlets taking legal action against the school and the school will lose.
