Bluegrasspreps' Class 1A Rankings 9-14-15

Featured Replies

Many of the other rankings around the state rank based primarily on records, I would venture to say that someone has Brossart ranked because they are 4-0.

No offense to anyone, but by not going on records and ranking teams based on first-hand knowledge, game film, and seeking out information is what sets the Bluegrasspreps Rankings apart from the other rankings that you see and think are crazy.

I agree. Most rankings go by record but my argument for Hazard may be winning two back to back games but how short handed they are and still coming up with the W.

The BGP Ranking staff always considers not only wins and loses, but who those wins and loses were too, who the opposing team has beat and lost too, and how they won or lost not just the W or L.

I hear what you are saying, but it will take some more effort for Hazard to prove they could beat Fairview in a rematch. If they need to be above Fairview, they will get their shot.

To me, the Pikeville/Paintsville game didnt tell us a heck of a whole lot. Othern than both teams play good defense. But so does Raceland. I dont think either Pville team would fair any better against Ashland than we did, imo, no one in the east has played a team as good as Ashland. Im not sold on anyone of the preseason top teams in the East being any better than the other. Same could be said for Paris and Campbellsville. Not sold on those 2 either.

Really the only team I can say I fulky expect to see in BG is Beechwood. I dont look for anyone in the west to go 4 quarters with them.

On the east side of the bracket, I still think its Raceland, Pikeville, and Paintsville. Its going to be a major battle to come out of the east. All three play great defense but havent done anything offensively against formidable opponents to prove they are on that next level. And after seeing all three of them play and watching Beechwood online some, I dont think Beechwood's defense is as good as it has been in the past. I think BW has the best over all offense in 1A, bc of their balance. but I think the Rams, BW Paintsville and our other kitty cat in question, the Panthers, are all about even on the defensive side of the ball. 1A playoffs from round 2 on shoukd be fun to watch.

Russellville is a solid and adding Drumgole only makes them better. So don't sleep on them..

Did some figuring of the combined records of each team has played so far this year and counting this week.

Beechwood 5-10( 4 teams)

Paintsville 5-13

Pikeville 12-6

Russellville 6-14

Raceland 11-5

Campbellsville 8-12

Paris 6-14

Fairview 10-7

Hazard 10-9

Bethlehem 6-10( 4 games)

Just a little fun figuring.. This doesn't count how hard of a schedule each team has played. Covington Catholic is 0-4 and played maybe one of the toughest schedules in Kentucky.

Assuming the game is close I would say no but I hear what you are saying about CCH, certainly not your big brother's Colonels and definitely not your daddy's Colonels.

Cov Cath has played a schedule that many teams in NKy, probably any team not named SK or Ryle, would be 0-4 against. Even those two teams IMO are 2-2, neither of them beats St X and Sycamore would be a pick em. I'm not ready to throw dirt on them yet, still a lot of kids and a lot of talent in Park Hills.

Would Ryle win or lose to themselves? :lol2:

Good point. Was early. Ok so SK would be 2-2, Ryle 1-2-1 I give them a tie vs themselves

out of all the top ten 1a schools Pikeville is probably the smallest in size.they do make up for some of this with speed and quickness but it may hurt them at playoff time.the belfry game should tell us about this years Pikeville team.good luck to all teams with no injuries
