May 28, 200620 yr The guy was a good hitter with and without steroids. He is also a total jerk, both on and off steroids. Bonds would have had a few more fans had he not resorted to cheating, but he still would not have enjoyed the popularity of Mays, Aaron, Ruth, Frank Robinson, or even Pete Rose. Most people do not enjoy rooting for jerks, and Bond has few equals in the jerkiness department. Agreed 100%:thumb:
May 28, 200620 yr I might be wrong but I really don't think anything is going to happen to him. Baseball seems to harder on gambling than they are on drugs. It's already happened to him. He's alienated the fans and stigmatized his own achievements. If baseball doesn't touch him, he's still spoiled goods to me and probably alot of other fans.

If baseball doesn't touch him, he's still spoiled goods to me and probably alot of other fans. The fans can hate him all they want but he'll still have the record, if he passes Aaron. There are fans who feel that Roger Maris's single season record was tainted because he played more games that Ruth. The commissioner of baseball back then wanted to put an asterisk after the record. Maris went through a lot of what Barry Bonds has gone through. I know there weren't the drug allegations but, he still suffered greatly because he passed Babe Ruth.
May 28, 200620 yr Man! I had no idea that: 1) Taking steroids could help your hand-eye coordination and reflexes. 2) Taking steroids could help you judge the speed and anticpate the path of a baseball hurled toward you. 3) Being a nice guy was a requirement in success Congratulations to Mr. Bonds (no asterisk noted).

Did you know the HGH he took made his hat size grow 1 whole size in one off season? Did you know that being a "nice guy" helps people like us root for guys like him to break records, and give him a benefit of the doubt when his integrity is called into question? Thanks for the cheating Mr Bonds (Asterik noted here).

Did you know that hat size has no ability to imact the ability to hit a baseball? Did you know that he's paid to hit baseballs, whether you like him or not, or whether you question his integrity? Did you know that had the appropriate monitoring and disciplinary measures been taken decades ago, none of this would be an issue?

Steroids increased Bonds' bat speed at an age when those whose records he was chasing saw their physical strength diminish and their bats get slower. The cumulative effect of adding a few mph of velocity every time the ball leaves the bat is huge. Take 10 or 15 feet off of each of Bonds' steroid-aided HR's, and how many would he have? It is unlikely Bonds would even be a starter at his age (defensive liablity that he has become), let alone a star, had steroids not extended hs useful career by allowing him to hit the ball harder and further than a man his age should be capable of hitting it. I would gladly accept Barry Bonds as home run king if Bud Selig would permanently ban himself from baseball. That is a fair offer, isn't it?

Do you know that without Bonds ingesting HGH, steriods, cream/clear, womens fertility drug, and whatever else has been alleged, his body would have gave out 2 or 3 years ago? He's almost 42 yrs old! Did you know it's what I believe and you can't change i?. Did you know I still respect your opinions and disagree at the same time.
May 29, 200620 yr Let's face it, there are very, VERY few pro sports figures in any sport without their flaws, and their black eyes. Ruth was an alcoholic. Rose bet on games. It doesn't change the fact that fundamentally, they are among the elite in baseball. I'm willing to give credit where credit is due. If Bonds' bat speed increased when it logically should have decreased, it still didn't help him actually put the ball to the bat. In the end, that's what causes a hit. I've sat through way too many little league, grade school, high school, and pro baseball games not to recognize that regardless of how fast you swing the bat, if you can't put the bat on the ball, it's a strike.

Did you know I'm only a couple of years shy of 42, and I take exception of the implication that I don't improve with age? Did you know I'm all too familiar with not being able to change anyone's mind? Did you know, I love when people can disagree and still respect one another! :thumb:
