Co-workers like Vester Lee Flanigan?

Featured Replies

After reading more about this...person...it dawned on me. The way he is described, the way he acted, the things he did...I had a co-worker a few years ago that was his doppelganger. As I was reading many of the stories about him, I could have replaced his name with this woman's name I use to work with, and would have never known the difference. The way she acted, the things she did and said, ALWAYS being the victim of something...racism, ageism, sexism...taking innocent words and phrases and turning them into "racists remarks". It was EXACTLY like this guy. Only difference was she is quite a bit older and a woman.

Luckily she no longer works here and everyone was so relieved when she left.

Has anyone had to deal with this sort of person in their workplace?

Yes, a few over the years. One lady in particular recently. I do not miss her. I just don't know how people go through life like that.

Thankfully, nope.

And if there was a person like that, I think I would simply never engage them in conversation.

Unfortunately, my experience was it's just not quite that simple. It can help, but doesn't fully take you out of the situation.

I really...REALLY had a guy who worked for me who sounds like he could have seen turning out to do something like Vester Lee Flanagan. I even had to fire him. He actually took his own life the following morning.

Several. A couple that come to mind....

Years ago I had a fellow working for me who acted like that. I decided to let him go, so he threatened me and my family, if he lost his job. About an hour later, a couple of sheriff's deputies escorted him out of the building. He never came after me, but did a couple of his fellow co-workers he blamed for getting him fired. He ended up getting an all expenses paid trip Stark for attempted murder. Last I heard, he'd been killed in an altercation in prison. Angry young man.

Had another instance, about 20 years ago, where a production worker had a crush on a young lady who also worked in the same department. She was kind of on the shy side and hung around work with another co-worker, a friend she had known since childhood. The odd man out was jealous, but nobody knew, because he never made his intentions toward her known.

One day I'm in that department tending to a piece of faulty test equipment, the male co-worker friend is working on some cabling in my peripheral view. All of the sudden I see jealous guy come up behind the friend with a cider block over his head ready to strike. I yelled at Jealous and threw his aim off, or he'd caught the other guy right temple.

As it was, he knocked the other guy out. I went to check on the injured party, and yelled at the supervisor to stop jealous guy. Jealous picks up an over-sized screw driver, starts jabbing it at everybody and bolts out the door. By the time the deputies arrive, he's long gone. They nabbed him a couple of days later.

Turns out he was off his meds and seeing Russian spies everywhere. They sent him back to the "home". I saw him a couple of years ago and he didn't seem to recognize me. Probably a good thing.

The young lady quit a few months after the incident. Her friend still works here.

Quite a few to be honest. Not so much saying the things Vester said but lack of accountability comes to mind immediately. There are also a few conspiracy theorists also.
