August 18, 201511 yr When DGL's serve they are in proper "church attire". I always tell them, "if Jesus was meeting you at the front door would he like what you are wearing"? MOST of the time this works. :lol2: I myself nice shorts, jeans, polo, Mrs. Lawnboy proper attire. If I am a Eucharistic Minister, then dress pants and shirt. When we are out of town for softball/volleyball tournaments, it's whatever we are going to the games in, this could be shorts 'n T-shirt, jeans 'n a hoodie. Back in my softball playing days, one Sunday evening I showed up at the Cathedral in my softball uni, dirt and grass stains 'n all (due to game times could not go on Sat. evening or Sun. morning). After mass I made it a point to apologize to the priest for my attire, and his exact words, "God doesn't care how your dressed, as long as you're here". Just this past year while out of town, DLG 3.0 was in her softball uni for mass in between games. While we make the effort to be dressed appropriate, there are occasions we are not, but we DON"T EVER miss Mass......there is ZERO excuse to. August 18, 201511 yr Depends on the church. At a Catholic mass I have my polo/button up on. I also frequent sojourn in Louisville. It's a little more casual. A lot of times I go wearing a backwards camo hat.

August 18, 201511 yr And if we're worried about distractions do we say something to the parents with the kids who make too much noise? Yes I do that too (call me ole scrooge when it comes to Church.) Take the kid to another room/outside. Gotta have respect for the church and for others in the church. I remember when DLG's were of that age and they were taken outside. No one came to church to hear my kids carrying on. :lol2:
August 18, 201511 yr You wear a hat IN church? This is sacrilege!!! Has much as I wear a hat, don't care what church it is, off comes the lid. But at least you are there, so it's OK.........I guess.
August 18, 201511 yr Yep. There's always a handful of people that are too. If they jumped off a bridge, you following? :lol2:

August 18, 201511 yr Indoors? That is definitely "new school." I suppose. I can definitively say that the attire worn by the congregation is significantly different than what you would see at Saint Pius.
August 18, 201511 yr Speaking of old school, I've seen a couple women at Mass recently wearing chapel veils. It was like middle 60's all over again. Anybody else seeing that at their parishes?
August 18, 201511 yr If they jumped off a bridge, you following? :lol2: Depends, are they wearing plaid shirts and skinny jeans?

August 18, 201511 yr I am in the camp that is thankful for the soul that is there no matter how they are dressed. That is an issue between them and God and it isn't my place to make any judgement on it. Everyone has their own barometer for that and it isn't really anyone else's place to intervene. Possible exception would be cases of extreme immodest dress or wearing something with a vulgar saying, etc., but I have never seen that. If someone representing a church I was attending took me aside and told me my attire was not appropriate there is a high percentage chance it would be my last visit there. Same goes for when to take children out. I would not let my own kids become a distraction, and would seek out the nursery or the like for a rowdy kid (and they all are rowdy at times). However, that is a parenting decision and I would NEVER intervene and tell somebody they need to remove their kids. That would be sanctimonious to do so, and a huge turn off. We want to encourage young parents to be there not give them a reason to stay home.
