I was surprised there wasn't something over those grates.

Turf covered plywood or something.

There was padding over top of the sewer grates.

On the team bench side, looked like open grates to me.

I watched the trainer put it down.. definetly padded

Actually, it was the other side that he put the padding down on. I'm guessing if there wasn't any padding on the team side its cause that side is farther away from the playing field than the side away from the benches.

Sorta glad to hear that...

Kept picturing it in my head, second guessing what I thought I saw...

Last year, during a JV game, one of the refs hit the hole and play was delayed until a new ref showed. Ankle sprain, I believe.....

In the Good ol' days, of the 80's at CCH, there were metal sewer grates on the playing field. Three on each side. Not to worry though.....they were covered with wood circles covered with outdoor green carpet........

.........up hill, both ways......and were happy to play on the metal grates........

Definitely two layers of padding. I stood on them to avoid the gnats.

You had metal grates?... Luxury!

My HS field was built over the old municipal dump. Railroad spikes, hub caps, parts of rusted drums, and art deco colored glass would work it's way to the surface over time. GK would spend time grooming his penalty area when play was at the far end of the field. Kind of like Moscher, come to think of it.

Wonder when the bodies work there way to the surface at Moscher.

Guess you havent been to Moscher lately have you, it looks really good down there and grass has grown in nice and thick.

All in jest......mentioned earlier or in another thread that the workers/selfless volunteers have done a good job transitioning it....
