Ru, one of the comments to the link you posted takes this to another level. Remember the "independent" Robert Mueller report that concluded that Goodell never saw the Rice elevator incident - punching his wife? I am sure that the NFL had nothing to do with how that "independent" investigation came out either...

 

If you remember, we were all fed a line of bull on that one too. The NFL security team has more connections with law enforcement than you can imagine but somehow Goodell never saw the Rice video until after he had already suspended Rice for only two games...Goodell comes off as a total liar and fraud on just about every issue he gets involved with.

I think I have some knowledge of our legal system. :thumb:

 

Like you, it is the timing that intrigues me.

I'm by no means a Goodell apologist, but the opportunistic nature of the timing is foul, IMO. And your post #2 is where I disagree. A black eye is if there's an award on the behalf of the line coach and against Wells and the league. Other than that, it's no biggie.

The crux of it is that the NFL conducts "independent" investigations, not "neutral party unbiased" investigations. They've never stopped to correct anyone for thinking the latter, though. Again, another power (stupidly) given to him by D. Smith and the Players Association. I still contend that the fervor to fire someone should equally be set upon Smith. He has skirted by encouraging the players to go open season through the media on the Commissioner.
