July 8, 201511 yr Rain delay going on now, might be a real late finish as I read they don't each other again this season.
July 9, 201511 yr The Reds have been killed by rain this year. Will be interesting to see where they fit this one in at. And the postponement may have cost Holmberg another call up if Lorenzen is pushed back to tomorrow.
July 9, 201511 yr I think it works out well for Nats, probably play late in the season after Reds fire sale.
July 9, 201511 yr Did the Reds even make Cueto an offer this offseason? I know Cueto initially said he would refuse to negotiate once the season started, but did the Reds make an offer? I know they don't have the money, but my word he is good.
July 9, 201511 yr This is perfect. With the rainout they can push everyone back a day, and not start Cueto again before the All-Star break. That'll let him pitch an inning in the game, and then they can trade him. No way do I send him back out there and risk injury.

Is it possible to move Chapman, Leake,Bruce and Phillips or some kind of combination to get what you want and shoot for 2017 and sign Cueto long term or no?
July 9, 201511 yr Cueto doesnt want to pitch here anymore, one of the reasons he refused to discuss contract.
July 9, 201511 yr Cueto doesnt want to pitch here anymore, one of the reasons he refused to discuss contract. It's very rare for a player in their last year of a contract to discuss an extension once that season begins. Most don't want the distraction that it creates.
July 9, 201511 yr It's very rare for a player in their last year of a contract to discuss an extension once that season begins. Most don't want the distraction that it creates. Correct. It has zero to do with where he desires to pitch. He desires to pitch wherever he can get the best deal.

Perfect scenario and his value is at an all time peak right now coming off his last start and hopefully another All Star selection. After his last performance teams have to be salivating at a chance to acquire him.
July 9, 201511 yr . Perfect scenario and his value is at an all time peak right now coming off his last start and hopefully another All Star selection. After his last performance teams have to be salivating at a chance to acquire him. What do we ask for?
July 9, 201511 yr What do we ask for? Hopefully they seek to acquire specifically a position player, hopefully an outfielder or middle infielder. I'd hope they could land someone at worst in the back half of the top 100 prospects. If a pitcher is offered they'd have to be one on the top 5 pitchers in all of minor league baseball. It would be nice to get two or three prospects with one of them being inside the top 100 and the others being guys that could help the team down the road maybe such as bullpen arms.
July 9, 201511 yr Problem is other teams know the Reds are not going to sign him, so they can give up less to get him. Reds screwed the pooch on this last year. Wouldn't surprise me if the didn't trade him at all.

Wouldn't surprise me if the didn't trade him at all. Nothing about the Reds front office surprises me. If they do trade him which I'm sure they will, the package won't be mind blowing but I still think they get a guy in return that is in the back half of the top 100 prospects or at least one that is on the cusp of top 100 status. Cueto won't be given away for nothing, a contender will give away one of their top 10 prospects and whoever they acquire will be an instant upgrade to the minor league system. I'd say right now the Reds top position prospects are Winker and the newly drafted Stephenson followed by Rodriguez, Blandino and Ervin. They should get a guy that will slide into a category with those guys.
