I do the 8 mile trip in a kayak. I've done the 3 mile trip before and while you can stop on the banks, I feel it's over too quick (especially if the current is good). I go with friends and we make a solid day out of the 8 mile trip by stopping on the banks to swim, eat lunch and all that.

We did the 3 and I would recommend the 8, it doesn't take as long as you would think with the current.
